Principal's message - week 36
Greetings North Plains Families!
I hope you were able to get out and enjoy a bit of sun this week, unfortunately the clouds and rain are back for awhile:(
It's that time of year when we are all getting anxious and excited about what is coming up for next year! If you want some input into your child's class placement for next year, please fill out the form accessible at http://tinyurl.com/ParentInputClassPlacement1718 and return it to me by Friday, May 26. Please keep in mind that you cannot request specific teachers (and you may not know who is teaching what grade at this point as there will be some changes), but we do want to know if there are specific needs for your child or concerns that you have. Also, at this point we will still have two split classes, a 1/2 and a 5/6. I am very much hoping that with the growth we will be able to eliminate at least one of these splits, but right now we need to move forward with the following grade configurations:
K, K, 1, 1/2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5/6 6.
This week the 6th grade students went to Biz Town and learned all about running a business and managing money. Our students did a great job representing North Plains Elementary!
The turn around in the morning seems to be going better and better, but I still encourage those of you parking and walking students in the building to try dropping them off instead. It would really help speed up the entire process. Also, Jim Peterson, head of the HSD facilities department, was out here on Wed. to look at our pick up situation. We will be working together to find a solution to make that process quicker, safer, and more efficient.
This weekend is the Proud to Be HSD festival in downtown Hillsboro. The band and choir will be performing from 11 - 11:30 on the courthouse lawn and I hope many of you will come down and support us! There should be a lot of fun things to do there, as well as the regular Saturday Market activities.
A special Happy Mother's Day to all of the special women in our community!

We have a really fun fundraiser that happens each fall called "Glow Golf" and this year it's at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course! If you would like to volunteer, we will be sending out a sign up at a later date, but if you would like to PLAY, please see the brochure on the following link http://tinyurl.com/npes-GlowGolf2017 This is a super fun event and brings in quite a bit of money for us (Thank you Joanna Mehaffey at Columbia Bank!) which we will be using to purchase more chrome books and increase our STEM opportunities next year.
