Twitter For Bozeman Educators

Why Should I Use Twitter?

Simply put, Twitter is one of the best self-directed PD opportunities we can engage in as teachers. Want to get some ideas for teaching fractions? Twitter is your friend. Want to learn how to get Genius Hour going in your classroom? Go to Twitter. Want to collaborate with other teachers on a particular topic? You'll find them on Twitter.

Twitter for Educators is not the same as Twitter for pop culture. We are not following Kim Kardashian or LeBron James with our educational Twitter accounts. We follow teachers, instructional leaders, administrators, authors and experts in our content areas who can inspire us and help us grow our craft.

Share the awesome and own the message! Teaching is a misunderstood profession. There are lots of misconceptions about what we do and what student learning looks like in the 21st century. Use Twitter to share the great things happening in your classroom with parents and the community. Connect with colleagues near and far. Provide inspiration to others. Use #BSD7chat to share with the broader BSD7 community. We want to see the cool stuff you're doing!

For the kids. Our students are at the heart of everything we do! We encourage them to be lifelong learners, so shouldn't we model that, ourselves? Our students deserve innovative ideas, new approaches and exciting learning opportunities that help them grow and become creative, critical thinkers in the 21st century. Your students will reap the benefits as you stay abreast of best practices, learn new instructional strategies and implement exciting ideas and projects in your classroom.

For you. Twitter will reinvigorate you as a teaching professional! You will connect with educators and experts across the globe and self-direct your own professional growth in ways that matter to you. Get the PD you want, when you want it! Become a Connected Educator and grow your PLN (Professional Learning Network)--beyond your grade-level, department and school!

#BSD7chat: District Hashtag!

Use #BSD7chat in your tweets to share ideas and resources! This is a hashtag many of us in the District use to connect digitally. You can share articles, other teacher's tweets and snapshots of the great learning happening in your classrooms!

We also use this hashtag for our District Twitter chat. Join us on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. PD in your PJs! 8:00 – 8:30pm. If you can't make it to these 30-minute chats, post your responses anytime using the Q1/A1 format. See below for guidance.

If you're new to Twitter and/or Twitter chats, fear not! We have many resources below to help you get ready.

what is a twitter chat?

Often, teachers realize the power of Twitter after participating in a Twitter chat.

A Twitter chat is a virtual, online discussion that occurs weekly/bi-monthly at a designated day and time. Using a specific hashtag, participants share ideas and resources around a particular topic. Moderators lead the discussion using a Q1/A1 (Question 1/Answer 1) format.

You are welcome to "lurk" and watch the conversation unfold or be an active participant in the discussion. Whenever you're ready, jump into the conversation in any way that feels comfortable to you.
