SAM DOWNARD, 2016 BRYANT-JORDAN SCHOLAR-ATHLETE REGIONAL WINNER (7A, REGION 4)
CONGRATULATIONS to Sam Downard, the 2016 Bryant-Jordan Scholar-Athlete Regional winner (7A Area 4). As the regional winner, Sam received a $2500 scholarship and is qualified to compete for the 7A title and another $2500 scholarship. Sam is a four year member of the Cross Country Team, Indoor Track Team, and the Track & Field Team. He qualified for the State Cross Country meet in 2013 and 2015. Sam was nominated to the US Air Force Academy by Senator Mo Brooks and Senator Richard Shelby. He accepted his appointment and will begin his basic training in Colorado Springs, CO this summer!
The Bryant-Jordan Scholar-Athlete Banquet and Awards Ceremony is held each year in April. This school year the 31st banquet is scheduled Monday, April 11, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel Ballroom. All 104 regional winners will be recognized and honored and the 14 class winners and the two state winners will be announced. Good Luck Sam!
The Bryant-Jordan Student-Athlete Program was created in 1986 by the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in conjunction with the Alabama High School Athletic Association. It is supervised by the Board of Directors of the Bryant-Jordan Foundation.

The Alabama School Public Relations Association held their Spring Conference at the Vestavia Hills Board of Education on Friday, March 4, 2016. March 7, 2016: The Varsity Bucks split with Scottsboro, winning the first game 4-3 and losing the second game, 5-12.
March 8, 2016: The Varsity Bucks lost both games to Sparkman, 3-0 and 17-4.
The Varsity Bucks will be competing in a Spring Break Tournament in Memphis, TN.

Congratulations!! VB Soccer started the tourney off with a 5-1 win over Athens Bible. Goals were scored by Sean Bengs (2), Nathan Hinten, Andrew Buller and Blake Adams! In game 2, the Varsity boys defeated Hartselle 1-0! Blake Adams was the goal scorer! They went on to defeat East Limestone 2-1 to WIN the River City Shootout Championship! Sean Bengs and Andrew Buller scored goals to lead the Bucks to victory! #BuckPride

Both our middle and high school teams are competing in the regional tournament and both are leading the scores with one day left!
You can go to nasptournaments.org to see all of the results from the Regionals. Scroll down to AL and then the Buckhorn Regional. You can also view results from other Regionals that are completed. Currently the BMS archery team is leading the state and the BHS team is standing as the #2 Team!
Awards presentations for the Regional Tournament will be presented today at BMS around 5:00 p.m. (Currently, about 9 of our kids are in the rankings to place). Good Luck Bucks!!

ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
The 2015-2016 Athlete of the Year campaign, powered by Huntsville Hospital Sports Center, TOC Sports and D1 Sports is underway. They are looking for high school senior student athletes who excel on the field, in the classroom and in our community.
From September to April, a panel of judges selects one Athlete of the Week. Applicants must be a high school senior, have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and display a history of athletic and academic accomplishments, as well as community/civic involvement.
All weekly winners are invited to a banquet held in their honor in May, and two students are selected as Athletes of the Year. The two Athletes of the Year each receive a $1,000 scholarship.
To nominate the next Athlete of the Year, you can either:

It is easy to raise funds for your non-profit or school group at The Chill Factory®. They will dedicate four hours to your group to raise funds with their help. Your organization invites the public to attend, they provide the treats. Your organization will receive 20% of all yogurt sales to put towards your goal. Non-profit status is required for community groups. School groups must have permission from the school principal to fundraise.
