Academic Honor Night 2016
Students that will be recognized during the program will receive invitations in Connect today. Students receiving invitations today should take them to parents/guardians asap. Any questions about the invitation process or the anticipated award levels should be directed to Miss Nass prior to the event. Congratulations to all of the students earning honor roll status for the year!
STAR Tests and more!
Seventh graders will also take two more math assessments in the next few days. Mrs. Mullins and Mrs. Waskom will be giving the Orleans-Hanna Algebra Readiness Predictive Test as well as a custom algebra predictive test on Canvas. Algebra 1 invitation letters will be mailed with report cards in June.
Good luck on your final standardized exams of the year!!
iPad Return Plans
All SMS students will be returning iPads on Monday, May 23rd. That is one week from today! The SCSD2 Tech Department will be updating the iPads over the summer. To protect the work, images, and projects you want to keep, be sure to be moving these items to your Google Drive account. INQ is a good time to be doing this!
Our check in procedure will include several steps.
1) Students will bring the iPad AND charger to school Monday.
2) Students will clean the iPad with a school-provided wipe.
3) Chargers and iPads will be checked by the tech department.
4) Damage will be photographed and recorded.
5) Bills for damaged or missing chargers, covers, cases, or screens will be mailed this summer.
Sixth and seventh grade students will get their own iPads back in August. Incoming 6th graders will receive iPads used by our outgoing 8th graders.
Got Your Summer Booked?
All print library books are due Monday, May 23rd. Just because you turn in your print books that does not mean that you should quit reading! Avoid the “summer slide” by utilizing our digital reading options. As an SMS student, you have three digital reading options to go along with the Scott County Public Library as summer reading sources.
Option #1: SCSD2 Overdrive Library: eBooks and Audiobooks
We have over 4,200 eBooks in the SCSD2 Overdrive eBrary collection. We will be adding a set of summer reading titles to the site to encourage summer reading. Look for our new titles. Also, Overdrive will also be adding eBooks and Audiobooks for free to our site to encourage summer reading. We have a handout in the MC that explains how to download the app to your mobile device, how to gain access to the collection using your library card, and how to download the books for reading or listening. You can access the Overdrive collection through our website or through their free app which is available for Apple, Android, and other mobile devices. This is the library that NEVER closes. Students can access it 365 days a year, 24 hours a day using their library card and PIN.
Option #2: Flipster: Our SCSD2 eMagazine Collection
Another summer reading option is our collection of digital magazines. These include popular titles like Sports Illustrated for Kids, Popular Science, Girls’ and Boys’ Life, Field and Stream and many more. The Flipster collection is accessed through the SHS MC website. The magazines are downloaded to the free Flipster app. Stop by the media center to pick up a handout that tells you how to access eMagazines for FREE!
Option #3: Open eBooks App
Each SCSD2 student is also eligible for an access code and PIN for Open eBooks. Open eBooks is a partnership between Digital Public Library of America, The New York Public Library, and First Book, with content support from digital books distributor Baker & Taylor. The Open eBook collection can be search through the free app which can be downloaded for Apple and Android devices. There are hundreds of popular books for FREE! Stop by the media center for a handout and access code.
