Douglas County at the Fair and Premium Book
Registration deadline is Friday, July 15 to register fair exhibits! Don't delay, register now!!! If you are planning to bring an animal or building exhibit to the fair you need to register it on or before Friday, July 15. Contact Extension office staff soon if you need assistance, do not wait until the last minute. At 11:59 p.m. on Friday, July 15 registration closes in FairEntry and families will not be able to register exhibits for the fair so plan accordingly and register your exhibits early if you'll be gone on vacation.
Day Camp Counselors Needed
Youth 6th grade and up interested in being a day camp counselor, we need you! We are looking for help at our area day camps. Counselors can practice leadership skills and have fun. Please check out this google form and complete it if you are interested. Thank you for sharing your leadership skills with others.
Volunteers Needed for the 2022 Douglas County Fair!!!
Youth and Adult VOLUNTEERS are NEEDED for the Douglas County Fair! Please consider helping out where you can, volunteers are crucial to ensure everything runs smoothly at the fair. This is a great way to learn more about a project area. If you have any questions, please contact the Extension Office at (320) 762-3890.
Hiring Now for Youth Food Stand Cashiers!
Help Wanted!
4-H'ers entering the 7th grade or higher are encouraged to apply for a cashier opportunity at the 4-H Food Stand. The Food Stand is in need of enthusiastic and responsible youth to run our cash registers during the course of the fair. Training on the use of our computerized cash register system will be provided prior to operations.
Benefits of the cashier opportunity:
- Learn and practice customer service skills
- Learn and practice how to properly handle money in a retail situation
- Provide experience for future job opportunities
- Have fun!
- Assist in a meaningful way to raise funds for the Douglas County 4-H program
Details of the cashier opportunity:
- Each cashier will be required to come to computer cashier training in the evening on Monday, August 8. Pre-fair roundup/cleanup at the Food Stand Saturday, August 13 in the morning (exact time to be TBD)
- Cashiers will be required to cashier a minimum of four 4 hour shifts over the course of fair-week.
- A minimum of six cashiers will be selected (maybe more)
- A promotional t-shirt or cap will be provided to wear during shifts and will be yours to keep after the fair.
- Award for the position will be a flat rate of $100

Livestock Quality Assurance & Ethics Training (LQA&E)Livestock Quality Assurance training helps youth provide excellent care for their food animals and ensure a high level of food safety to consumers. We designed it to enhance the educational experience of 4-H animal science projects. Do you hope to exhibit with 4-H at the Minnesota State Fair? All 4-H livestock exhibitors must complete livestock quality assurance training. The training in Douglas County will be held on July 14 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Public Works Meeting Room. Register by logging into mn.4honline and click events. Search for Douglas County 4-H Livestock Quality Assurance & Ethics (LQA&E) and click register. If you have any questions, contact the office. | Smokey Timbers Camp The dates are set for September 16-17, youth grades 4-7 mark your calendars now! This exciting two-day, overnight camp will be organized and chaperoned by youth and adult volunteers and staff. Youth will participate in fun activities and games, discover the outdoors and explore the many opportunities 4-H has to offer. It allows members to share their livestock project knowledge and also knowledge about the industries they represent. All youth showing livestock are strongly encouraged to complete a livestock interview on Monday, August 15 between 1-7 p.m. You must schedule your interview in advance using one of the Signup Genius links: Gr K - 5 and Grades 6 & Up. Signup Now for Your Livestock Interview
Lake Mary Troopers Sponsored Silent Auction at County Fair
Register donations on Monday or Tuesday entry days: Monday, August 15 between noon and 7 p.m. and Tuesday, August 16 between 1-7 p.m. Bids are accepted Wednesday - Saturday of fair. Bidding closes Saturday, August 20 at 7 p.m. Ribbon and prize given to exhibit chosen as the "Best of Auction" in both the alumni and youth categories. Please help us raise awareness about Muscular Dystrophy and raise money for research.
Sample auction items include arts, crafts, quilt, photography, fishing lures, potted plants, bench, shelf, clothing, jewelry, lawn ornaments, live rabbit and processed animals.
Unfortunately there are some items we are unable to sell on auction including perishables such as vegetables, cut flowers and food items. Binders and posters are not an auctionable item unless physical items go with it. State fair exhibits can be sold and will be available for pickup after the state fair in the Extension office. It's Not Summer Without 4-H Day Camps!
We are excited to offer five in person outdoor day camp experiences for youth who completed grades K-3! These popular camps are offered at different locations in the county (transportation is on your own) for just $ 5 per camp! Signup for one or all five.
All camps start at 9:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. Participants should dress for the weather, bring a water bottle and their own sack lunch; light snacks will be provided.
Please drop off or mail cash or check payments (payable to University of Minnesota Extension) to the Extension office located on the second floor of the Douglas County Courthouse. We are located at 305 8th Ave W, Alexandria and can be reached at 320-762-3890 with questions.

- July 20 - Explore Chemistry & Polymers (Lake Osagi Park in Osakis). Mix things together to create new!
- July 27 - Explore Art (Brandon Lions Park in Brandon). Paint, draw, create and more!
- August 10 - Explore Nature (Curt Felt Memorial Park in Alexandria). Experience the world around you!
- August 19 - Explore the County Fair (Douglas County Fairgrounds in Alexandria). Experience all things fair - food, fun and excitement.

It's Back - Design Station Workshop in July!
- Wednesday, July 20 (grades K-5)
- Thursday, July 21 (grades 6 & +)
Come to Alexandria's Design Station located at 4417 County RD 82 SE and create your own sign art. Last year's workshops were a huge hit so we can't wait to offer these workshops again. All supplies and materials are provided. If we don't reach our participant numbers for each day, we will combine the two groups and offer one workshop; to be held either July 20 or 21.
