April Band Newsletter - Ms. Walker

April 27 - May 1

The show must go on.....

It's hard to believe we're almost done with April. We're starting to wind down in our school year with only 5 more weeks to go, and I'm so proud of the hard work everyone has shown through this time. I've received the question "are we still putting on a concert?" -- after much deliberation, consideration, and research - the answer is YES! :D

If you are able to, please submit a video of you playing "Let's Go Band." A few things to consider when recording:

  1. Please set a metronome to 110. This will make it easier when creating the video. If you can't go that speed, don't worry. Just record yourself at whatever tempo is easiest for you.
  2. If you don't come in for awhile (flutes, bells, etc.) -- you can skip over those measures of rest in the beginning.
  3. If you don't want to have your face in the video, just record audio.

The deadline to submit your video is May 11th. This should hopefully give everyone plenty of time. If you have any questions about the song (or if you need the song) - please email me at walker.band@musicedservices.org.

Calling All 8th Grade Parents!

You should have received an email from me asking for information regarding your graduating student. Please respond to that email no later than May 8th. This will allow me to put together our final program in a timely manner. If you have any questions (or if you did not receive that email) please reach out to me at walker.band@musicedservices.org

There's still time to get a private lesson!

Private lessons are being offered through May 29th. This is a fantastic way for your student to receive one-on-one attention and focus on areas of opportunity to strengthen their musical abilities. Sign ups for May will come out this week and the link can be found on the band website. If you are new to lessons (or are continuing them) please also make sure you've signed the online privacy waiver that MES has asked all parents fill out for your student's protection.

Smart Music is also being offered through that time. You can find sign up information for that also on the Band Website.

Beautiful spring weather

We took advantage of the beautiful weekend weather and visited our local nature preserve (Spring Brook) -- where we went on a 2 hour hike, and saw their bird sanctuary. We just happened to be there are a good time when they were cleaning the cages and they had their birds on display for everyone to see!

What is Ms. Walker up to now-a-days?

Currently Reading: Nothing! I finished "The Ember Queen" book on Sunday! :D

Last movie watched: Gretel and Hansel - not that scary; kind of disappointed.

Music you're listening to: Neon Raceway

Do you ever get bored?: All the time. Now that weather is getting nicer, I'm trying to go out more and get in a daily walk. We're lucky to live by a gas station that sells ice cream and that's been a nice treat here and there.
