Elementary Gifted/Talented Program Referrals
Medina Valley ISD elementary schools: Castroville Elementary, LaCoste Elementary, Luckey Ranch Elementary, and Potranco Elementary will begin the annual process of identifying gifted and talented students in 1st through 5th grades. The referral period ends January 31, 2021. The assessment process will occur throughout the spring. Parents, teachers and any other person familiar with the student’s exemplary academic skills may refer a student for further evaluation.
A Gifted/Talented Parent Awareness Video is available to give you more information about the process. This will be followed by a virtual Q&A session on January 19, 2021 from 5:30-6:00 pm.
Referrals can be made by contacting the child’s teacher or by reaching out to the campus GT Specialist.

Caught Being a Leader
Get Caught Reading!!
LaCoste Elementary students often go above and beyond! With that in mind, we love to acknowledge when they do. Reading is an important everyday activity. It shows great examples of the Leadership Habits we know are the foundation of our success. We like to “Catch Students Reading”. Examples of that would be; students independently choosing to read as a leisure activity or students achieving a reading goal they had set for themselves, like finishing their first chapter book or reading their first book independently.
In person learners AND remote learners are both included! Simply click and fill out the form below. Each week a name is randomly drawn from those submissions. Their name is displayed on a bulletin board in the library, mentioned in our morning campus announcements and posted in our S’mores newsletter. The student is also given a prize for their accomplishment. Prizes for remote learners will be mailed home.
If you have any questions please email maureen.geurin@mvisd.org.At LaCoste Elementary, our leaders stick together! So “Stay Sharp, and Get Caught Reading!”
Caught Reading Winner!
Students who read “above and beyond” by choosing to read and surpassing reading goals, can be “Caught Reading” by staff and by family. A winner is selected randomly.
This weeks winner is:
This week’s winner is Kinsey Bendele!
She was caught by Ms. Kayla who said Kinsey did a great job finding her sight words!
So “Stay Sharp, and Get Caught Reading!”
