Credit Bearing Opportunities and Paid Activities Offered
Do you need to earn credits over the summer?
The first step to answering this question is to to check your credit totals by going to your StudentVue account and looking under the Course History tab. Any credits deficit will be indicated by a grey bar.
You might benefit from earning credits over the summer if you answer yes to one of the following:
-After 9th grade you have fewer than 6 credits.
-After 10th grade you have fewer than 12 credits.
-After 11th grade you have have fewer than 18 credits.
-After 12th grade you have not completed the high school diploma requirements.
and/or
-You have an F, I (Incomplete) or NP (No Pass) on your transcript.
4j Summer Intensive Courses
Dates of the various courses:
JUNE 19th, 2023 – AUGUST 11th, 2023
The 4J Summer Intensive Program will provide opportunities for students to extend their learning into the summer months led by outstanding 4J licensed educators. Course offerings reflect the curiosities and passions of both students and teachers. Courses will be held, onsite at all four high schools depending on the teacher and facility. See below for a list of dates, locations and course descriptions. Students may register for any course, regardless of their home high school.
Students are limited to enrollment to one course to ensure there is enough space for all those interested. The district will make an announcement directly to families and on the district page in late June about any courses opening for a second enrollment.
Credit Recovery FuelEd Courses
Eugene 4j school district is offering Credit Recovery (CR) courses through an online program called FuelEd. See below for courses offered.
Monday, July 10th 2023- Friday, August 18th 2023
Students will complete coursework independently but are required to check in (in person or online) with the summer credit recovery program daily. Teachers are available Monday-Thursday 8:00-12:00
See below for courses offered and go to the Summer High School Credit Recovery Website for full details. Students may take up to 1.0 credit, with .5 credit increments completed sequentially. Class of 2023 seniors will be able to take non credit recovery courses if it allows them to graduate.

BYU Independent Study Courses
If you're in need of credits and the other options will not work for you, you might want to consider BYU Independent Study courses. BYU Independent Study offers online courses with options that enable students to bridge gaps in their coursework, make progress, and even accelerate graduation. These courses are accepted by SEHS. It is the responsibility of the family to purchased and managed these courses. Once the course is completed a student can report the course to our registrar.
SEAL Program Summer Teaching Intern
The 4j school district is hiring for SEAL (Summer Enrichment and Academic Learning) Teaching Interns.
This opportunity is available for current sophomores and juniors. They are looking for 50-60 high school students who are interested in working with students in Grades 1-8 for the summer program. (July 13th- August 11th).
Students who intern will receive 1.0 OS/Elective credit titled "Summer Teaching Intern. Student will receive a free Eugene Rec 1 Pass which gives free access to several fun locations over the summer.

Counselor in Training with YMCA
The counselor-in-training (CIT) with YMCA program exists to help 10th, 11th, and 12th graders learn leadership skills and to prepare them to become counselors after graduation.
CITs are expected to be leaders and role models at all times; they set a good example during opening and closing ceremonies, meals, and activities, and assist the staff during the camp day.
Your summer as a CIT is to help campers have the best summer ever by:
- Make safe choices

- Learn new things
- Participate in new experiences
- Help navigate experiences

Northwest Youth Corp
NWYC Youth Community Program (non-residential) 5 week session (Check website for dates) Ages 15 - 18. $250 per week stipend
NWYC Youth Camping Program (residential) 5 week session (Check website for dates) Ages 16 - 18. $300 per week stipend
Northwest Youth Corps provides work-based learning opportunities to youth and young adults through immersive crew-based programs that focus on completion of demanding physical projects done in partnership with governmental land-management agencies. Programs offerings come in both residential and non-residential varieties. All programs focus intensively on the growth of participants, providing 8-14 hours of formal and informal professional development to participants each day. Programs are highly structured with participants receiving a minimum of 175 hours of training in non-residential programs, earning 2.75 credits, and roughly 415 hours of training in residential programs, earning 3.5 credits. Credits will be awarded for only one successful completion of either of these summer programs but not both. The program's educational outcomes are specifically designed to align with Oregon's Performance Indicators for Career and Technical Education, Physical Education and Health Outcomes.

Summer Academy to Inspire Learning (SAIL) at The University of Oregon
The Summer Academy to Inspire Learning (SAIL) programs are FREE one-week summer programs hosted on the University of Oregon campus, where high school students learn about various subjects from distinguished University of Oregon faculty members through fun social and interactive activities. SAIL offers Day and Residential Programs.
Information about the program and the application (usually opens in April) can be found here: SAIL Program. Students who complete all of the activities will earn .5 OS/Elective credit and this would be a great Senior Experience CRLE activity.

Lane Metro Youth Corps & Skilled Trades Program
Lane Metro Youth Corps (ages 14-21)
Summer Programs are from 06/26-08/18
Two Lane-Metro Youth Corps crews offered.
Crew members remove invasive species, collect native seeds, plant native species, build small structures, remove fences, and assist in the renovation and maintenance of park sites.
32 hours per week, Monday – Thursdays
Skilled Trades Program (ages 18-24)
-Basic carpentry skills for the construction industry.
-Blueprint reading experience.
-Safe operation of hand & power tools used in construction trades.
-Ability to earn points needed for apprenticeship application..and much much more.

Outside of 4j School District Courses
Students can take courses outside of the 4j School District system. We accept credits from online providers like BYU Independent Study and universities, like the University of Oregon.
Something to know about online courses provided by outside agencies. The courses are not typically aligned with our SEHS curriculum and somethings even if you do well in the course, you might not be fully prepared to do your best in the next course sequence.
Do you want to return to SEHS or EOA in the Fall?
Are you a Class of 2023 senior and just discovered that you did not earn enough credits for your Oregon High School Diploma and want to return to SEHS in the fall? You can also enroll at Eugene Online Academy (EOA) if you prefer that.
We can offer you in person SEHS courses or online courses to finish up your credits. You can stay as long, or as short, as you need. To get re-enrolled please contact our registrar, Melinda Shull at shull@4j.lane.edu.
