A Message About The Great Kindness Challenge From our Counselors
SPRING GARDEN CLUB
What you should know
Registration Dates
We are now accepting applications to join the Spring Session of the Scobee Garden Club. See Mrs. Perez for an application or call 210-645-7500 Ext. 4020 for more information.
Meeting Times
We will meet every Wednesday during grade level lunches as well as after school from 3:00PM-3:45PM. All students must be picked up or able to walk home at 3:45PM in order to participate in the after school sessions.
Vegetable Garden
Each grade level will maintain two 4X8 garden beds. This season we will be planting a variety of vegetables; many of which can be eaten fresh in a salad or cooked as a side dish.
Sensory/Pollinator Garden
Mr. Sullivan's classroom together with Mrs. Perez have been working on designing a sensory/pollinator garden for our school that will serve as a calming space for students and staff as well as a habitat for butterflies and other pollinators. We are happy to share that Mr. Sullivan received $1000 grant from the SWISD Education Foundation that will help the sensory/pollinator garden come to fruition.
Parent/Adult Volunteers Needed
We always welcome parents, grandparents, or family friends to help with our garden. We could always use help with watering, weeding, and we definitely can use help when it comes time to fill all the beds in the sensory garden with soil. In order to volunteer or join any of the afternoon sessions, adults must complete a volunteer application at https://southwestisd.teams.hosting/volunteer/EntryPointHomeAction.do
Donations Needed
Currently we are in need of bags of garden soil to fill new garden beds and to refill existing garden beds. A composting bin is also needed to help our students understand how food scraps, leaves and lawn cuttings and other organic waste can be used to create fertilizer for the garden.
