What's Happening at Log
While the pandemic has had a great deal of negative impact on all of us, there have been a few positives that have come out of it. One of those is our ability to 'telecommute' and for students and teachers to have synchronous virtual sessions remotely. This has allowed for us to get credit for school days when we have needed to close physically for inclement weather. With that in mind, we are avoiding adding many days on to the end of the school year to make up for those closures! We think that everyone will appreciate this once June comes around and they year is still ending on time!
The past few weeks have been relatively quiet here at Log College. Our boys' basketball team has been competing in their abbreviated season, and has faced some tough, hard fought losses. They have one final game coming up next week (date TBD), closing out our winter sports season. Spring sports will begin soon, featuring baseball, softball, boys' and girls' track, girls' soccer, and club lacrosse. We are hoping with the change in weather and slowly improving COVID conditions, that our spring sports season will be fairly robust and have a large turnout. Please stay tuned for upcoming communication regarding spring sports!
Finally, district administration sent out an eAlert this week notifying the secondary school communities of a potential adjustment to the number of days of in school learning. We have included this communication from Dr. Best below. Please take a moment to read this, as this change is possibly coming in the next few weeks.
As always, please feel free to contact the school with any questions or concerns.

- March 8: Home & School Meeting @ 7:00 PM

Communication Regarding Additional Days of In-Person Instruction
Dear Parents/Guardians of CSD Secondary Students, Finally, should this option ultimately occur, our plan is also to continue offering our fully remote instructional choice for parents/guardians who prefer that option.
As was communicated at the meeting of our Board of School Directors on February 9, CSD is exploring the option of offering 4 days of in-person instruction per week for all elementary school students instead of our current hybrid cohort offering. This shift in our elementary instructional model would also be accompanied by an expansion of our current hybrid cohort instructional model for our secondary school students. Each secondary hybrid cohort would receive an additional day of in-person instruction on alternating Wednesdays.
For this to occur, in accordance with our Health & Safety Plan, the following factors are required:
Should you have any questions or special circumstances, please contact our Assistant to the Superintendent for Schools and Student Services, Dr. Dennis Best, at 215-441-6000 x 11006.
Regards,
Dennis H. Best, Ed.D.

Course Selection Update
Please know that even though students have submitted their drag sheet selections, that does not mean that they cannot make adjustments to their selections. These adjustments can be made when they make their Skyward entries.
The next step in the scheduling process is the actual creation of the master building schedule by Mr. Drago over the summer, and then the creation of individual student schedules. The whole process will be completed in early to mid-August with schedules going live shortly after that.
If you have any questions about scheduling, please feel free to contact Mr. Drago, Mrs. Rudenko, or Mr. Sayre.
Inclement Weather Information
With winter well underway, we have seen our share of inclement weather. With that, delays and cancellations due to weather conditions continue to be inevitable. Please stay tuned to local news outlets, Centennial SD's social media accounts, and Log College's social media accounts for updates on delays and cancellations. With continued reliance on technology, we are able to provide abbreviated instructional days during physical closures, so please be sure to check your emails for important eAlerts that include daily schedules for closures and delays. Alerts will also be sent out via phone, text alert, and email.
PIAA Eligibility
Now that we are back operating in the Hybrid model, our athletics program is up and running again, albeit in a limited fashion. With that, the school runs weekly eligibility reports on all athletes. In addition to academic eligibility, students must meet attendance and behavioral guidelines for continued participation in PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) sports. PIAA, which is the governing body of school sports in the Commonwealth encourages the ideal of the ‘student athlete,’ which we wholeheartedly support. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Swartwood, Athletic Director, or Mr. Drago, Assistant Principal.
From the School Nurse
Reminder: Students may not carry any medications including over the counter at any time. The only exception is an epi-pen or inhaler with doctor's orders stating they have permission to carry. All medication taken during school hours must be dispensed by the school nurse. For further information, please see Centennial School District Policy 210-USE OF MEDICATIONS.
All students in Grade 6 need a physical examination, this should include the required immunzations for 7th grade (Tdap & Meningococcal). The physical examination form needs to be completed by your child’s doctor and returned to the school nurse.
Students in Grade 7 need a dental examination. The dental examination form needs to be completed by your child’s dentist and returned to the school nurse.
Forms are available on our website or in the nurse's office.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the school nurse at 215-441-6075 x14025
Thank you for your ongoing support, as we strive to keep the children of LCMS safe and healthy!
Attendance Information
Attendance letters are automatically generated by the Skyward student management system on a weekly basis, based on student attendance reports. As we move through the year, the number of attendance letters generated increases a good deal. There are currently four types of letters generated weekly:
- 3-days of Illegal Absences
- 4-days of Illegal Absences
- 6-days of Illegal Absences
- 10 days of Cumulative Absences
Illegal absences simply mean that there is no accompanying parent note or doctor's note to excuse the absence. All absences default to illegal in Skyward until a note is received by our attendance office.
The three-day letter is considered a "warning" letter. After the four-day threshold is met, our school social worker will contact families to set up a SAIP (Student Attendance Improvement Plan) Meeting, where the absences are discussed and a plan to improve attendance is created. Once the six-day threshold is reached, other measures can be taken, as a student is considered "habitually truant" under the law. These COULD include fines in district magisterial court, Children and Youth involvement, or attendance diversion programs.
The 10-day letter is a cumulative letter meaning it counts both legal and illegal absences are counted. Once a 10-day letter has been generated, a 'licensed practitioner of the healing arts' must provide a note. That can include a doctor, nurse, nurse practitioner, etc.
Absence notes must be turned in within three (3) days of your child's return to school. Absences will remain unexcused until notes or turned in or if the three day window is exceeded. Absence excuse notes can also be emailed to Log College at the following address: lcattendance@centennialsd.org
For family trips during the school year, a Family Trip Request Form must be submitted to the Principal at least three (3) days prior to your trip. All requests submitted less than three (3) days prior will be denied.
