Ohio 4-H Cloverbot Challenge

The Ohio 4-H Cloverbot Challenge gives 4-H Cloverbuds the opportunity to work cooperatively in teams to problem-solve using STEM (science, engineering, technology and math) skills. A new theme is selected each year and teams research a topic, build a working model of their solution to the Challenge issue and create a poster to illustrate their findings. Cloverbuds, team advisors and families come to the Nationwide Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center in May, for the Challenge event. Teams present their models and findings to a team of reviewers, learn about other Cloverbuds’ projects, participate in age-appropriate STEM activities and are recognized at a closing celebration with medals and a team certificate. Walk & Serve - Spread the Word!

Saturday, April 16th, 9am-12pm

4100 Columbia Street

Hilliard, OH

Make a difference in your community

Our new 5K Run/Walk raises money to help buy supplies for the community service projects to support area non-profit organizations. Any funds raised beyond those needs will directly support the youth and 4-H program of Franklin County.

The SERVE portion of our event promotes community service and is free! There is no requirement to participate in the 5K. Area 4-H clubs adopt a local non-profit organization. Club members educate the public about the needs of their organization and how they are filling that need by completing the project. The members demonstrate how to make the item and coach event participants to complete each item.

Click here for more information including how to register for the Clover 5K or to get your club involved with the Serve event.

Horse Stall Donations Still Needed

Please consider helping the Franklin County 4-H Horse Advisory Committee raise funds for new horse stalls at the fairgrounds. A good start was made to replacing all of the stalls in barn 24 last year but there are plenty more to do! A lot of comments were made about how beautiful the stalls and the sponsor plaques are and we appreciate that! Gold, Silver, Bronze and Friends of 4-H levels of sponsorship are available. If you or anyone you know is interested in sponsoring a stall, please contact Lori Raugh at 614-581-6497 or at Lraugh@gmail.com. She would be happy to discuss the additional benefits, cover more details and answer any questions you may have.

Livestock Requirements

The livestock requirement summary, identification forms, and much more can be found at fcfair.org. If you plan to take an animal project in 4-H this year, don't delay in getting the information about deadlines.

Poultry Project News

Poultry Ban Lifted: Currently, the ban on poultry project exhibitions at Ohio fairs has been lifted. Members can plan to take poultry projects to this year's fair, but please be aware that circumstances can change at any time which could mean that the ban could be put back into place.

Poultry Resource Book:
Unfortunately, the Ohio 4-H Poultry Resource Book will again not be published this year. The good news is that there is an alternative for poultry project members. Franklin County 4-H has decided to utilize Storey's Guide to Raising Poultry as the resource book. Information from this book will be what judges base their questions on during project evaluations. Storey's Guide is widely available. The book is available for purchase at the Extension Office for $15.50, can be checked out at many local libraries, or can be purchased from several online book sellers.

Bi-State Youth Poultry Clinic
: This clinic will be held in Wooster at OARDC, Fisher Auditorium, Saturday, April 2. Registrations are to be postmarked by Monday, March 21. More information is posted on the Poultry Events and Resources pages at www.ohio4h.org/statewide-programs/animal-sciences/poultry/.

TRACTOR SUPPLY PAPER CLOVER CAMPAIGN

4-H supporter, Tractor Supply Company, will be holding the annual spring Paper Clover Drive April 13-24, 2016. Clubs can do a bake sale, project displays, project demos, etc. to help generate paper clover sales. We are aiming to be top in the region this year and would like Franklin County 4-H to get as big a check as possible! Galloway TSC store manager and former Franklin County 4-H member, Jeremy Harless, would love for clubs to be a part of this fundraiser and awareness program and we thank him for his support of the program!

If your club is interested in being a part of the festivities during the Paper Clover campaign, please contact Jeremy at str0435@tractorsupply.com.
