THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD
Solving Scientific Problems One Step At A Time
State The Problem
Do you need help finding out how far the moon is? What about how much liquid a sponge can consume for a period of time? By stating the problem you are starting the whole process of finding your scientific answer.
Form A Hypothesis
Take a guess. What would happen if you ---? I think ----- . Think about what might happen and what you know won't happen then use that information to form a great guess that's been tossing and turning in your mind.
Design The Procedure.
Now its time to let those creative juices flow and get on top of this experiment. Don't let anything take away from your experiment. But make sure you have your indepdent and dependent variables, along with that control so you can see what's changed.
Analyze The Data.
Now its time to document all that hard work you did into charts and graphs. So was your hypothesis right? Why or why not? This part is where you look at all your information and see how it proves or doesn't prove what your initial theory.
Form A Conclusion.
Now that you've gathered all your information and your done with all the testing its time to come up with your answer. In your answer you tell what your hypothesis was and whether or not it was proved. You give valid details as to what you did and how it did or didn't work.
