printing pasta's with natural colours

March 20-21, 2015

2days masterclass in Printingpasta at atelier Fiberfusing, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Leentje van Hengel from Tinctoria in the Netherlands is a master in natural dyeing. She knows precisely what to do and how to make the strong colours. She can give you all the answers you have about natural dyeing and printing.

In this 2-day masterclass on natural printing pasta's we are going to work with 6 natural colours on wool and silk fabrics. We will take care for sample-materials, but

you can bring your own handmade felt and other woolen and silk fabrics too. We shall use alum-mordanting and printing colours with high light- en wash fastness, reproducible. Extracts from madder, weld, genista, chestnut, cochineal, persian blue are mixed with a mordant into a pasta. This can be used with a brush, a printbloc, a stencil or simple screen.

We are also going to work with an etching paste, which will bleach the textile in a safe way. It is possible to combine this with the printing paste.
