Staff Bulletin
Week of March 30- April 3, 2020
A Message from Lisa
I hope you had a great first week of teaching from home. I've heard so many great comments from parents! I'm excited about the quality of the lessons and activities that you are putting together.
Thank you to those that volunteered to lead our Happy Hump Day and Spirit Day Activities. They have fun things coming for our community. If you have an idea, contact Katharine, Ryan, Sara, Shelby, Janet, or Stephanie. They are doing a great job!
Our Specials Team will also be hosting a Weekend Warriors series on Saturday mornings on Facebook and we are joining Bush Elementary for their Freaky Science Fridays on Facebook.
Your main job at this point is to be as creative as you can to teach your students. Think out of the box and I know you will do amazing things. Intentional, systematic communication with your students and parents is key! It is imperative that you read the Staff Bulletin and The Publisher weekly.
This morning, the district announced that beginning Monday, March 30, we will be moving from limited operations to essential operations only. Please see below as to what that means for you. The essential operations protocol is in line with the Montgomery County stay at home order issued Friday, March 27.
The WHO TO CALL list is below. Please refer to the correct person for the fastest and most efficient answers. It's essential that along with reading the Staff Bulletin, you read our parent Powell Publisher.
Make plans to meet us for a Zoom Faculty Meeting on Wednesday, April 1 at 2:00 PM. You have each been invited through the Powell Calendar and a link to the meeting is included. This makes it easier to find without digging through your email.
Enjoy the video below. I think I've watched it 50 times this week. It will make you smile!
Enjoy the week!
Lisa
ESSENTIAL OPERATIONS
Essential operations means that non-exempt employees will work from home and will be limited to standard hours. The District will run the air conditioning from 8AM to noon.
Essential Operations means that no one, including exempt staff, should physically be at a campus or in an office when the work can be done remotely. Phones and email communications can be monitored from home. Our expectation is that these communications are monitored and responded to during the hours of operations (8-3) on a regular basis. Teachers and staff may come on site to retrieve items necessary to work from home or to prepare and send out a packet, but are not allowed to stay and work in that setting. Again, it is okay to come and get something, to drop off something, etc., but not to stay.
Our facilities remain closed to the public. When it is necessary to have staff on site, all employees must maintain social distancing, wiping equipment with disinfectant before each use, particularly the copy machine. Continue to scan in when you enter the building.

ONLINE READ ALOUDS
Copied below is an article with the guidelines for MANY publishers. If you choose to do an online read aloud for your students, please follow the guidelines from the publisher for each title you choose. Most of the guidelines do not appear to be that big of deal to follow. In my opinion, we should honor and protect the generosity of the publishers who have given permission to use their materials during this time. It is NOT enough to have author permission... In fact, if you read the entire article of each author who has provided permission for use, you will find a link to the SAME publisher guidelines in the article below. You will notice the author/illustrator does not give permission, but the publisher gave the author/illustrator permission to share this information. Read carefully.
Also, there are SO many authors and illustrators reading their own works for us! Why not utilize those resources first? What can be better than a read aloud by the actual author? It's almost like having a mini-author visit!
Here's the link. Let me know if you have any questions.

TECH CHECK OUT
If you check out computers or materials to students, plan to let them keep for the duration of our closure. For health reasons, we probably do not want to be collecting things right now unless someone is moving away.
If you have a student in need of a device at home, please contact Erin Anderson.
GT Maintenance Hours
It is required that each school year you maintain your GT certification with 6 maintenance hours. Please see the following GT workshop opportunities.
TAGT Flier with the new registration code is attached. This is an online option to earn up to 6 hours of GT credit.
