After School Tutoring

Trexler will begin their after school tutoring program beginning Monday, September 11th. Each week, teachers in all core content areas will stay after school one day from 2:15pm - 3:00pm to provide additional support in the areas of English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Tutoring will be held every week through May 17th, but our school will be unable to hold tutoring on the weeks of November 20th, December 18th, January 3rd, and January 24th. The purpose of after school tutoring is to provide supplemental instruction and support in the core content area. All students are welcome to attend; however, prior parental permission is required. Parents may email the core teacher directly or fill out this form. All students need to have a ride available at 3:00pm. Students will be picked up in the front of the school.

The schedule for tutoring is:
Monday: 6th Grade Science & Social Studies, 7th Grade Science, and 8th Grade ELA
Tuesday: 6th Grade ELA, 7th ELA, 8th Grade Math and Math 1
Wednesday: 6th Grade Math, 7th Grade Math, and 8th Grade Science
Thursday: 7th Grade Social Studies and 8th Grade Social Studies

Athletics

Our softball team kicks off their season with an away game against Hunter's Creek Middle School. The team will travel to Hunter's Creek on Tuesday, September 12th for their first game at 4:00 pm. Our football team will also have an away game versus Northwoods Park Middle School. The football game will be held at Northwoods' field beginning at 4:00 pm.

Forms, Fee Waivers & Free/Reduced Lunch Information

Forms

Trexler teachers are diligently working to collect all forms that were distributed to students at the start of the school year. Students need to turn in their Emergency Medical Forms, Insurance Waiver, 1:1 Device & Internet Security Agreement Form, and TMS Learning Compact Form. Please ensure that you sign these documents and return them to school at soon as possible. Students may not have a 1:1 device issued to them until the 1:1 Device & Internet Security Agreement Form is returned.


Lunch Information

Trexler understands that many families experience economic hardships and challenges in paying for both school fees and school lunches. For this reason, the federal government sponsors a Free/Reduced Lunch program in which you may qualify and the Onslow County School District offers a School Fee Waiver process that is based upon your child’s lunch status. If you haven’t already, please consider applying for the Free/Reduced Lunch program online at the following link: www.lunchapplication.com as this is the quickest method for gaining approval. If you do not have computer access and need to use a device, just let us know and we will be able to assist you in the front office or the application can be submitted on a paper form that we also have in the front office and can send home with your child. If using a paper application, please return the meal application to Trexler or the school nutrition office at the district office. Only one application is needed for a family so please include all children's names on the application. Often families meet the guidelines for qualifying for Free or Reduced pricing and are not aware of the opportunity. If by some chance a family qualified for Free or Reduced pricing and did not want the savings, you can decline the free or reduced savings.


School Fees

Please submit a copy of the letter that the district Child Nutrition office mails to you in order to allow Trexler to waive your child’s school fees. We can make a copy of the form for our records or you can take a picture of your letter and send it to the homeroom teacher if that works better for you. If you need another copy of your letter, please call the district Child Nutrition office at 910.989.2021 ext. 20504.


Account/Fee Collection Process

The Onslow County School District has implemented new requirements for Middle Schools to ensure that student lunch accounts are paid in full. Therefore, students will need to be current on all accounts and school fees to attend school dances that occur after September 2017.

Inclement Weather Information & OCS Mobile App

In light of the Hurricane Irma, Trexler wants to remind parents that all school closings and delays are decided at the district level. While Onslow County Schools does offer an Inclement Weather Hotline at 910.989.2211, the best way to receive information is from the new mobile app designed specifically to keep our families better informed and connected to what's going in our schools. The new Onslow County Schools mobile app is available for both iPhone and Android smartphones.


The app will deliver real time school news to a smartphone for fast up-to-date access. The app will feature:

  • The latest district and school news
  • Push notifications about breaking news, closures, weather, events and more
  • Photos from school events
  • Maps with school locations for easy navigation, contact information

Interim Reports

Students will receive their first interim report on Monday, September 18th. Interim reports at middle school are issued at the three and six week mark. Students are then provided a report card at the end of each grading period. This next week will be an excellent time to review your child's progress and ensure that any missing assignments have been completed. Parents can always view grades and student performance by accessing their Parent Portal Account from the following website: http://onslow.powerschool.com. 7th Grade Immunizations

Per North Carolina law, seventh-grade students will need to get a Tdap vaccine as well as the Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV). Trexler teachers and staff are working to identify students that are still in need of the vaccine. OCS is legally required to exclude students who do not have documentation showing they received the required vaccinations within 30 calendar days of the first day of school. If your child has already received their required vaccines, please give an updated copy of your child's shot record to the front office. If you have questions about your child's immunizations you can contact TMS School Nurse, Felita Maready, at 910.324.4414 or by emailing Felita.Maready@onslow.k12.nc.us.

Additional information regarding these vaccines is available at the Onslow County Health Department, and individuals may receive these vaccines on Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary. PTO 6th Grade Welcome Activities

TMS would like to take a moment to thank parents and students for their participation in our 6th grade welcome activities. Students were able to experience their first middle school dance on Thursday, September 7th. The DJ provided excellent music for the students to dance to, and everyone seemed to enjoy the event. Parents and students also attended our annual 6th Grade Lunch on the Lawn on Friday, September 8th. Students were able to make their way outside to have an afternoon snack with their parents and enjoy the fresh air. TMS would like to thank our PTO for sponsoring these two events. AVID Contract Signing

On Thursday, September 7th, AVID students and parents attended their annual contract signing night. During contract signing, TMS AVID elective teachers discussed the AVID program as well as student expectations. By signing the contract, students and parents commit to meeting the grade and behavior requirements for the AVID classes. The AVID Site Team also hosted breakout sessions related to team building, tutorials, and an overall awareness of this AVID program. Students interested in joining the AVID program should fill out an application. Applications are available in the front office.
