20-21 School Year Updates
As we prepare to start the 20-21 school year we have definitely been tossed a few curve balls. The latest was two days out of our planning process as be all brace for Hurricane Laura. Fortunately we we did not experience any impact from Laura, but this did impact schools in putting us a few days back in the preparation process. Below are updates for changes in dates for this upcoming week. We are all looking forward to getting started and seeing our students and families. Whether we are on screen or face to face, we are a strong school community and I know we will all support our students to have a quality experience.
Teacher notification letters are being mailed August 31st. Our initial thought was to email this, but we still have families that have not updated their emails on the last survey sent.

Materials Pick Up
Friday, September 4
PALS, k,1,2-8:30-11:30 Use the Birdwood Circle Drive
3,4,5 8:30-11:30 Use the Jason Circle Drive
Procedures:
- On your dash place a sign with your child's first, last name and grade level. When you pick up your materials, you will give this sign to the teacher as this will help us account for who has picked up and who has not.
- If you purchased a school supply pack from PTO indicate this on the same sign with your child's name. Indicate "PTO Supply Pack"
- Note: We will not sell supply packs during materials pick up
- Remain in your vehicle as you come though and a Lovett staff member will hand you the materials bag for your grade and supply pack if purchased
- We appreciate you wearing a mask to receive your supplies in your car window. If no mask, please be ready to have supplies placed in your trunk.
Technology Distribution
Technology distribution will take place during the entire week of August 31-September 4th. Technology will not be handed out with materials pick up. In general we will distribute I-pads to K-2 and Chromebooks to 3-5. The device type might vary slight based on numbers. We are not able to accommodate a request for a particular type of device. Below are procedures :
- You will receive a call from a staff member and will need to come into the office between the hours of 8:00-4:00.
- Families will be asked to indicate what day and time they are coming as we will only allow one family in the office at a time for pick up.
- As you come up to the office, please ring the bell and indicate student's name and that you are there to pick up their technology.
- You may be asked to wait on the bench outside if another family is already in the office.
- When picking up there is a form you will need to complete and if waiting we will provide you with that form to help expedite the process.
- You must wear a mask to enter the office.
- Before entering the office a temperature check will be conducted by our nurse or a wellness team member
- Please do not come up to campus to pick up technology if you are not called. We have used the data collected from surveys, emails and phone calls to determine needs.
Note: We do not have hot spots to distribute at this time. Currently we have not received a delivery from the district, but if this changes we will reach out to families that indicated a need for internet
What to do after pick up technology
- It is terribly hot in Houston right now, so do not leave the device in your vehicles for long periods of time
- When you get the device home, immediately charge it up.
- After charging, have your child log on and get comfortable with the device
- Check our school website for tips on logging into a Chromebook
- For logging into an I-Pad, turn it on and look for the TEAMS APP Icon. I you do not see the TEAMS APP Icon, locate the Self-Serve APP and find the TEAM APP in the list and click to install.
- If you have a problem with your device contact Anne Warner at AWarner@houstonisd.org
- to help with problem solving.
