Canoga Park Chatsworth
Community of Schools
January 2022
Dear Canoga Park Chatsworth Community of Schools families and community members,
Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and a beautiful start to 2022. As all schools resume on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, we are excited to have students back on campus. All schools are taking the utmost priority in safety for all students and staff. Along with necessary baseline testing for students and staff to return to campus, schools are also providing extra cleaning and precautionary measures to keep all our students and staff safe.
COVID TESTING FOR SPRING 2022
All students and employees, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, participating in in-person instruction must participate in ongoing weekly COVID-19 testing. This is in accordance with the most recent guidance from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Additionally, all students and staff are required to have proof of a negative COVID-19 “baseline” test in order to come onto campus on January 11.
Tests are free, quick, easy, and your personal information will remain confidential!

SELF-CARE ISN'T SELFISH
Welcome to 2022! If you are feeling exhausted, stretched or empty coming out of 2021, you are not alone and may be in need of some essential self-care. Even though the western world is overall considered individualistic, a majority of western people come from generations and generations of immigrants. This means we likely subconsciously subscribe to the collectivist mindset, which can lead to self-care feeling unnatural or selfish.
While there is no single definition of self-care, it is often described as performing a series of actions to improve our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Practicing self-care promotes a healthy relationship with yourself. When you are unable to care for yourself, it is nearly impossible to care for others. Therefore, self-care allows you to establish a positive mindset that will translate to good feelings and emotions for others around you. By taking the time to let yourself recharge, it helps your mind and body operate at its best—exactly the foundation you need to be the best parent and partner you can be!
Children, just like adults, benefit greatly from consistent and deliberate self-care activities. Even if they are not currently stressed or upset, teaching kids to regularly take care of themselves will help ensure that they have the skills to manage future stressors in healthy and effective ways. Doing self-care activities together not only helps you, but helps your child to cultivate good habits, while lowering their risk of developing mental health issues like depression and anxiety. When taking part in self-care activities with your kids, they do not need to be expensive, time-consuming, or elaborate, but they do work best when practiced frequently and consistently.
Self-care is giving the world the best of you, instead of what’s left of you!
For additional information on self-care, please email our Mental Health Consultant, Jill Thomas at jill.thomas@lausd.net.
