Tchaikovsky's Early Life
Piotr Ilych Tchaikovsky was born on May 7th, 1840 in Votkinsk, Russia. Tchaikovsky was the second of six surviving children in his family. Tchaikovsky's father, Ilya Petrovich, worked as a mine inspector and metal works manager. Alexandra was Ilya's second wife. She had brought in music into the Tchaikovsky household. Tchaikovsky loved his mother more than his father. In 1943 Alexandra hired a person of French culture to help with the children's education. Her name was Fanny Dürback, she worried about his obsession with music and would rather him read books.At the age of 10, Tchaikovsky began attending the Imperial School of Jurisprudence, a boarding school in St. Petersburg. Before he went he had a traumatic event where he got swung off a carriage.
Tchaikovsky's House
Piotr Ilych Tchaikovsky was born in Votkinsk, Russia. This picture is of his house in Russia around the time HE was living there. (1840-1850) Now it is the Museum and P I Tchaikovsky School of Music. This is where he learned to read, write, and learn about music. He lived here with his parents, siblings, and step siblings before he had to go to The Imperial School of Jurisprudence in St. Petersburg.

Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1
Tchaikovsky has made some of the most complicated and famous music ever! One of them being Piano Concerto No. 1. It was his first Piano Concerto. He showed it to his friend, Nikolay Rubinstein whom he was going to dedicate it to. Nikolay hated it! He said that the writing was uneven and extremely difficult to play. So Tchaikovsky was really mad and decided to dedicate it to Hans von Bülow. When it was first preformed it was extremely popular.

Tchaikovsky's Legacy
Piotr Ilych Tchaikovsky died at age 53 on November 6th 1893. It is still unclear how he died. Some people say that on October 21 he suddenly became ill and was diagnosed with cholera and died on November 6th. While others say he committed suicide. No matter the way he died he was still a great composer. His music was very complicated and some moved to quickly for pianists to play. Today his music is loved and preformed by many all over the world.
