Counselor Corner
Dear parents/guardians,
I wanted to let you know that I will be leaving my position as school counselor at the end of the school year. I have loved working at Hillsdale and will miss seeing the students, staff and family members! I will be leaving to start my own private practice focusing on play therapy. Please welcome the new counselor, Rachel Bordewyk to the position for Fall of 2023. I am thrilled she has accepted the position, and I know she will continue to provide a safe place for Hillsdale students. Thank you for many wonderful years and memories!

Summer Reading Promotion-from our Librarian, Mrs. Thornton!
Good morning! This past week in the library was all about discussing summer reading! Students should have brought home various flyers this week. I’m really trying to promote summer reading!
- Meridian Library District Summer Reading Program (purple flyer) – The Summer Reading Kickoff Party is June 1, 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Settlers Park. Families can enjoy free activities and performances. Food trucks and community vendors will be there as well. Kids of all ages will have the opportunity to sign up for the Summer Reading Program. The program runs from June 1 - August 14. Receive a FREE book just for signing up!
- Along with the Summer Reading program info, I have put together a list of the top 20 book recommendations given by the students in each grade that they recommend for the next grade that is coming up. For example, the fifth graders have given their book recommendations to the fourth graders so the fourth graders can know what books the fifth graders enjoyed reading this year, and so on for each grade level. Students can take these lists to the public library this summer if they are looking for a good book to read and aren’t sure what to get.
- Third and fourth grade students only: We’re discussing the IBOB program this week and I’ve handed out a flyer with IBOB info and the books selected for next year. Students do NOT need to decide now if they want to participate, however, many kids already know they want to join our IBOB program in the Fall. This flyer gives the students a chance to get a head start on reading the books over the summer.
- We’re also discussing the IReady Summer Splash program this week as it also incorporates reading. I’m showing a PowerPoint presentation about it. I’ve told the students they will receive a packet from their teachers in the next couple weeks with all the details.
