Finneytown Local School District
Community Update 11.10.2020
Superintendent's Corner
Hello Finneytown Families,
It is so good having students back in the buildings. We appreciate your patience and grace as we navigate our current tricky waters. Our goal is to stay in school and increase the time instead of cutting out time. We did not meet the criteria last week for moving toward purple so we have at least 2 weeks that students will be able to continue to come to the buildings. Each Thursday the new results are revealed but it takes at least two weeks to be designated purple.
I forgot to mention earlier in the year that the Board members voted to waive student supply fees for this school year. It was one way we could relieve some of the burden on our families.
Don’t forget to fill out and return the forms we included in the last newsletter. The Emergency Medical Authorization (EMA) is especially important in case there is an emergency at school. Please fill out and return ASAP.
Please take the time to go online and fill out the free and reduced lunch program application as well. Meals are free to all students this year, breakfast and lunch. These can be picked up each Tuesday during the day or in the evening. If this doesn’t work for you, please let me know and we will help make arrangements. We have very few people who are taking advantage of this even though it is free to all Finneytown students.
Even though meals are free, it is still very important that you submit that lunch program application. As the state goes through a new funding cycle, it is very important that Finneytown get credit for every student who is eligible for free or reduced lunch. This is also counted in several other grants and funding sources. Right now, our numbers are at a record low and I don’t believe that is because people are suddenly no longer eligible. We just have to get the applications submitted and approved. This designation also helps with testing costs like AP tests that can be waived or reduced. Please take a few minutes to apply.
The weather is tricky now so please have students dress appropriately. Thanks for your patience with drop off and pick up at each building. You very quickly helped each building get it working better. We appreciate all of you.
Very soon, we will be asking if you want your child to be Flex Campus or Virtual Campus for next semester. We are currently at 44% Virtual and 56% Flex. We really don’t expect that to change a lot for next semester.
Winter sports are ramping up and tryouts are happening. I just got off of a call with the Lt. Governor and others about winter sports. Everyone wants it to happen. We have to keep watching the rise in numbers and will let you know if there is any change. We are only allowed to have 15% of capacity in the gym so please know seats will be taped off or removed. EVERYONE in the stands must wear masks at all times. We do not want to be in violation and end up getting shut down. Families of the athletes will get first chance at the available seats.
Mr. Warmack has put together an online ticket process and gives codes or special times to parents of the athletes before tickets go on sale to the general public. He also has to provide a certain number to the opposing team. It will all work out if we just follow guidelines.
More next week. Stay healthy and stay safe. Don’t forget to monitor for signs and symptoms and stay home if you are sick.
Respectfully,
Superintendent Terri Noe
