This newsletter will be emailed out each month and will help you understand what is going on in the art classroom this year! I will include pictures of projects and information regarding all summative assignments. Occasionally I'll throw in a little about what is happening in the fabulous McKinney High School Art Department!

Art II: Project Cardboard Relief
Cardboard Portraits Requirements and Grading
Cardboard Portrait Requirements, Deadline, and Grades
20 pts- Portrait reflects adequate planning through sketches and referral to original stencil. The original concept is followed through to completion.
20pts- Portrait is at least 3” off of the base in no less than 5 places. Portrait can be considered a relief sculpture rather than a two-dimensional assemblage.
20pts- Craftsmanship is superb and demonstrates exceptional skill with cutting and pasting neatly and with purpose. There are no glue puddles, rough edges, or poorly cut pieces. Work looks professional and neat.
10pts- Overall composition is successful and well developed. You thought about where and how to apply all pieces
30pts- Time Management and Studio Practice. Student demonstrates successful time management. Student uses class time wisely and is on task throughout the duration of the project. Studio Practice-Students maintain a neat studio environment, takes proper care of all materials and executes proper clean up methods.

Formative: Exploratory Sketches with Collage, Large Stencil Sketch Completion, Demonstration Studio Practice, Project Mid-Point Studio Practice, Final Studio Practice, Critique Studio Practice

Bottle Bird Requirements and Grading
Bottle Birds Requirements, Deadline, and Grades
20 pts- Bottle Bird reflects adequate planning through sketches and referral to original stencil. The original concept is followed through to completion. Bird may be realistic or made up.
10pts- Bottle board is at least 15” tall and no less than 5” wide
30pts- Craftsmanship is superb and demonstrates exceptional skill with armature building and paper mache. Painting is completed thoroughly, correctly, and demonstrates pattern and attention to detail. Bird is structurally sound and complete.
10pts- Overall composition is successful and well developed. You thought about where and how build the armature. You experimented with different techniques and materials. The bird is constructed with a bottle and paper mache materials successfully. You thought about color and overall composition.
30pts- Time Management and Studio Practice. Student demonstrates successful time management. Student uses class time wisely and is on task throughout the duration of the project. Studio Practice-Students maintain a neat studio environment, takes proper care of all materials and executes proper clean up methods.
