What Does Test-Optional/Test Blind Mean?
As we have all seen on the news, Covid 19 has caused many colleges and universities to go "Test Optional". But what does that mean exactly?
A test-blind college means the college does not look at test score results, even when applicants submit them. The Cal State and UC public colleges are not permitted to look at these scores.
A test-optional college lets students decide whether they want to submit test scores with their application. Most test-optional schools will consider SAT and ACT scores if they are submitted, but focus on other factors they believe are stronger predictors of a student's potential to succeed in college.
Many colleges use the standardized test scores and GPA as the most important factors when considering admission. (Selective Colleges, Cal State, and UC schools) But small liberal arts colleges (such as my favorite ones; Colleges That Change Lives) take a closer look at who you are and what you can offer beyond test scores and grades.
