Rocket Review
Week of August 13, 2021
Notes from the Principal's Desk
Welcome to our weekly newsletter, the Rocket Review! If you are new to Morgan Elementary, this newsletter is sent electronically to your inbox weekly with updates and information from Morgan, UCS, Food Service, and the community.
Morgan has been under construction since the week students left in June. The entire building received new flooring, additional cabinets in some classrooms, and updated technology with stronger wifi. All of these projects come from the most recent bond approved by voters.
Morgan is looking good, but still working to get things ready for teachers and students to return. At this time, we are still awaiting construction clearance for teachers to access their classrooms as our custodial staff continues to clean and prepare the building for student return.
Suggested school supply lists can be found on the Morgan Elementary Webpage. A link to the lists is also available below. These are suggestions of items that will be used regularly in the classroom throughout the school year.
UCS continues to work with the Macomb County Health Department, with guidance from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the CDC to shape Return to School protocols for Covid. You can read the latest information on the UCS webpage. A link is provided below.
Mr. Monroe shared new school start times with you today. Morgan will have the following start/dismissal times:
8:40 am - 3:30 pm.
Our first bell will ring at 8:30, with tardy bell ringing at 8:40. More information on back to school can be found in the UCS Return to School Updates and UCS Essential Guide located below.
There will be more information coming as it becomes available. I know many of you are wondering about a Rocket Day. We cannot provide a date at this time as we await construction clearance for staff to access their classrooms and have time to set up before students arrive for instruction.
Continue to monitor your email for updates along with the Morgan Facebook page.
Have a good weekend,
Mrs. Lasky
Medication at School
Children may not bring any medication to school, including allergy medication, without signed medical forms on file. Please do not send medication to school in your child's backpack, such as inhalers, EpiPen, or over-the-counter medications as they will be asked to keep the medication in the office for parents to pick up. If your child needs to have medication in their backpack per Doctor recommendation, UCS requires the completed medical form to be on file with the office.
Any questions about medication, please call Melissa Roth at 586-797-5800.

Technology Optional Insurance for 2021-2022
How to Purchase Device Insurance -- ONLINE: The initial fee to purchase device insurance ($15 per device) can be paid online using your checking account, debit card or credit card through PaySchools. The link to PaySchools is unique to each individual school within the district. The link can be found on the homepage of the school your student attends, under “Parents” - “My *school name*”. If you are unable to pay electronically through PaySchools please contact your building principal to discuss alternate payment methods.
FINAL DATE TO ENROLL FOR TECHNOLOGY INSURANCE (2021-2022) In order to be considered enrolled in the optional Technology Insurance Program, payments for 2021- 2022 school year must be received no later than Friday, September 10, 2021.
IF THE DEVICE IS DAMAGED: In the event of damage, bring the device to your building principal. Your principal will advise the next steps. HOW TO PAY FOR DEVICE DAMAGE FEES (with or without insurance) -- ONLINE: All damage fees associated with the school issued device can also be paid online using PaySchools.
There will be damage fees assessed to cover the repair or replacement cost of devices. When participating in the district's insurance plan for $15 per year, any accidental damage reported will be covered as described below:
Insurance coverage will repair/replace the device for accidental damage with no cost incurred by the student of the first incident (claim). Subsequent damage repairs during the covered year will have a deductible assessed per instance. Insurance will cover a maximum of 3 damage occurrences during the covered year. If insurance is not purchased, actual repair costs (not to exceed the cost of the device) will apply.
More information on Student Technology Insurance can be found in the document below.
