Principal's Message

I hope everyone is having a nice long weekend with family and friends.

Senior Parents:

Last week you should have received an e-mail from Parchment. Parchment will be our new tool to electronically request your transcripts online. This is an effort to streamline the process for requesting official transcripts, GCISD and Grapevine High School have partnered with Parchment to send high school transcripts electronically, securely and confidentially, to colleges and universities.

Your Senior received an email on their district email from Parchment last week. Current students are able to request transcripts for free until August 1, 2016, at which time they will be deemed as alumni and will be required to pay a small processing fee. If you have questions please let us know. Further information can be found on parchment.com/studentkit.

GCISD to Host Bond Election Information Meetings

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is hosting four bond election meetings starting March 10 to provide voters and community members with information on the proposed package. On February 18, GCISD Trustees voted to call a $248.975 million bond election for Saturday, May 7, 2016.

“We are holding informational meetings at each of our middle schools to give members of the community the opportunity to choose the most convenient time or location to learn more about the bond proposition,” said Dr. Robin Ryan, GCISD Superintendent.

Quadrant meetings will be held:

  • March 31 at Colleyville Middle School, 1100 Bogart Drive, Colleyville

  • April 5 at Cross Timbers MIddle School, 2301 Pool Rd, Grapevine

The one hour meetings begin at 6 p.m. and will be held in the campus cafeteria. During the meeting, district leaders will give an overview of the proposed projects, explain the community-led selection process, where and how to find specific information about each campus and facility, discuss the tax rate, and answer questions from community members.

Early voting is April 25 - May 3. GCISD residents age 18 and up can register to vote through April 7. Detailed information on the bond proposal can be found at GCISDBond2016.com.

HB 2610 Information

I want to take a moment to remind you about a change to the instructional calendar that will be going before the Board at the regularly scheduled meeting on March 28 at Colleyville Middle School.

Every year, the District Excellence Committee, comprised of teachers, staff, parents and community members, as well as district and campus leadership, review possible calendar options before presenting to the Board of Trustees. This year, we had the additional complication of HB 2610, which was developed and passed during the 84th Texas legislative session. It requires districts to provide at least 75,600 minutes of instruction, rather than 180 days. Due to the new legislation passed by the State, there will be some changes made to the student-teacher calendar in GCISD.

To maintain the calendar the community desires and has previously approved, elementary, middle and high schools must have 435 instructional minutes per day. In order to accommodate the new requirements, the district had to make adjustments to the school day for elementary and high school students. The new start and dismissal times are impacted not only by the change in the required instructional minutes but also by the resulting shift in the transportation schedules. Below is the proposed schedule for 2016-2017 school year:

  • Elementary School 7:40 a.m. - 2:55 p.m.

  • Middle School 8:10 a.m. - 3:25 p.m.

  • High School 8:40 a.m. - 3:55 p.m.

If the Board approves the proposed changes to our bell schedule, the district will post information on the district website and share through campus social media channels.

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Ambassador Program:

Seniors: The deadline to turn in your service hours forms for the Ambassador Program for the 2015-2016 school year is March 31st. After Mrs. Uselton and Mrs. Alvarado assertain your level of either Community Service Ambassador or Community Scholar Ambassador, you will receive more information regarding the cords to purchase for graduation. Freshmen, sophomores and juniors have until the end of school to turn in their hours. Please contact Katherine Uselton, the 2016 Coordinator, at mtuselton1@tx.rr.com , or Kim Goad, Committee Chair, at ghsambassadors@gmail.com if you have questions.

AP Testing Information: 2016

AP testing is May 2nd – 13th. Times: 7:45 and 12:00. Students riding the bus need to make alternate arrangements for transportation on their testing days.

We will have a pre-coding session at the end of April where Mrs. Henry will give you specific details about the testing – where to go, what to bring, etc., and you will fill out a bubble sheet and candidate pack. If you miss this meeting, you will need to go by and see Mrs. Lynch in the front office prior to your first test.

If you do not take the AP exam, you are required to take a district exam, which will count as your semester exam grade. If you had Government 1st semester, we will go back and change your grade to reflect the district exam. This testing will take place on a different day and time from the AP exam. Mrs. Henry will let you know that schedule in May. This test is an actual AP exam with multiple choice and free response with the same time length as the regular AP exam.

Any questions, concerns, or requests need to be directed to Catherine Henry, Assistant Principal at catherine.henry@gcisd.net.

Prom is May 7th at The Worthington Hotel

Tickets go on sale Monday, March 28th. Please see Mrs. Gunn before or after school or during lunches to purchase tickets. The cost is $85 per person through April 15th. Ticket price will be $90 from April 18th-29th. If your date does not attend GHS, you will need to obtain a date form from Mrs. Gunn.

While there is no specific dress code for prom, it is still a school event and Students need to be cognizant of their attire for this event. We encourage you to consider buying/renting appropriate formal attire fitting for a formal school event like prom. For our young women, we ask that the dresses not be too high or low cut or revealing in nature. For our young men, we ask that they consider wearing tuxes or suits appropriate for an elegant celebration like prom. Prom is a celebration of a Senior's four years in high school and we are excited to see everyone looking their best on Saturday, May 7th. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dr. Terri Carter.
