Social Studies Test Wednesday

We are just finishing up our Constitution and government unit. Students will be taking a unit test on Wednesday (2/3). Students should have six (pink) note sheets to study: (1) After Independence / What is a Constitution?, (2) The Constitutional Convention, (3) Ratification of the Constitution, (4) The 3 Branches of Government / Federalism, (5) More Things to Know . . . , (6) Main Ideas of the Constitution. Completed copies of class notes are available on my website.

Students have had two review assignments to help them prepare for this test: (a) Creative Notes (which was due today), and (b) (Yellow) Vocabulary Review packet.

Students also have vocabulary flashcards to help them study. (Also, any family discussions of news involving the government, upcoming presidential election, etc. is always helpful).

Reminder: Canandaigua is the password for all school webpages.

English: Keep reading!!

It is very important to be reading the assigned chapters in Fever 1793. We will be having frequent quizzes and class discussions on the required reading.

Science: Unit Test on Friday

Last week in science class we made ginger ale. (See the accompanying photo). Students were able to see fermentation in action. It was fun and tasty! We will be having a unit exam Friday on cells and cell processes. This was a large unit so we will be reviewing for two days in class.

Science & Technology Opportunities

Interested in Science or Tech.? Here are a few upcoming camps being offered during February break at the Rochester Museum and Science Center:

(Please note - Mrs. Olvany was out today, so I don't have any new information to report, so I am leaving what she sent me last week because it seems like it might still be relevant).

Students just finished chapters and tested last week. Ask your child how he/she did on their recent math test or check infinite campus for updates!

Period 2 is now working on a chapter involving circumference and area of circles, volume and surface area of prisms and pyramids. The website below works for this class as well – we are in chapter 8.

Period 3, 4, 7, 9 have started a chapter on percents. While this is a chapter that directly relates to their lives (tax, tip, discount, interest), students often struggle with this topic. I encourage all students to use the book website for extra practice:

Students should have a login and password. I have copies of them if parents would like them as well. One of my favorite aspects of the website is the red box with the white checkmark. This section is a self-check quiz. It gives 5 – 10 multiple choice questions for students to do work on their own paper and then select a choice. At the end, just click to see which ones are correct or incorrect. If your child is getting many incorrect, encourage them to stay after school with me for help. We will be having a quiz on this topic next week. We are in chapter 2. The quiz will be on lessons 1 – 7 (excluding lesson 5).

Your kids are wonderful! I truly enjoy teaching them and spending my days with them!

Any donations of Kleenex (it’s a sneezy, coughing season here!!!) or hand sanitizer is always appreciated! Thank to the those who have donated earlier in the year!

Thank you for all your support!!!

All classes: Please look HERE for thoughts on how to help your child succeed in Mrs. Olvany's math class.

Is there any homework tonight?

All 7th grade students are expected to have and use their agendas throughout the day. Agendas should be the first source for info about assignments, tests, etc. If your child forgets to bring his/her agenda home, (or if what your child recorded is unclear or illegible), you can also try our "homework hotline". You can also check up on missing assignments and/or grades through our Infinite Campus Student/Parent Portal.

If students have work that has been saved on the school's network, they should be able to access the school network by clicking HERE; NOTE: The password for all school webpages is Canandaigua .

Teacher Webpages

Some teachers have their own classroom websites. You may be able to find more information, links, assignments, etc. by visiting their classroom webpages.

NOTE - the password to visit all school websites is: Canandaigua

Mrs. Olvany is particularly good about keeping her website up-to-date with assignments. Click HERE to visit her webpage.
