Room #135 News!

Welcome to Mrs. Blevins' Online News Broadcast!

Our classroom stresses the importance of working at one's full potential. The students are given opportunities to do their personal best during every activity. In order to determine your child's needs, continuous assessment takes place. All activities are designed so that every student in our classroom is working at a challenging and rewarding level. Throughout the school year, I promote working together to create an open teacher-parent-student communication relationship. I feel it is in your child's best interest if we work together and stay in contact with one another in order for him/her to be successful! Feel free to navigate the Blevins Broadcast at your convenience where you will find classroom news, slideshows, upcoming events, our week at a glance, a note from the teacher, and other pertinent information.

Check out Logan K. and Sydney as this week's news anchors!

Students did GREAT on the Benchmark Test! Studying paid off! This week, we started Topic 14: Understanding Percent's. Students are working towards a discount in store if they receive only two wrong "Favorite No's!" Students are continuing to gain essential understanding when fixing problems they got wrong. Please review the similarities between a fraction, decimal, and a percent with your 6th grader.

Social Studies

We discovered Canada's economic agreements with the United States. We also started to create a map of Canada! This is due on Friday, March 27th. There is a rubric that students received that should already be glued or stapled to the back of their map. Ask your student how they had to trace the map on their construction paper! Next week, we will be reviewing for the Ch. 2 Test covering sections 4 & 5.

Students have finished creating their body paragraphs and this week, we discovered the important components of an introduction and conclusion. We continue to have many wonderful class discussions about the historical events! Students are engaged and intrigued to learn about the other groups' events.

We have been using the Chrome Books in class. Students need to be familiar with using the Chrome Books due to the M-STEP test (the new MEAP) being online.

Next week, we will begin peer editing our Informational Essays!

Word Study

Today we took the "therm=heat, temperature" quiz. Next week, we will be reviewing all root words from the beginning of the year. There will be a review quiz on Tuesday, March 31st. Please remember to use Login as...username: centralcats Password: flushing.

We started Tuck Everlasting! We discovered the literary elements, characterization and imagery as well as comparing and contrasting events. Next week, we will focus on making inferences and continue to work on understanding vocabulary used in Tuck.

Students received their two Monthly Reading Logs for the month of March. One is an "At Home Reading Log." Students need to complete and fill out the log after reading 20 minutes everyday. The same rule applies for their "At School Reading Log." They are responsible for filling this out after IDR/Daily 4 time in class. Both are DUE on Wednesday, April 1st with a parent signature. They are also available on my teacher webpage for your reference.

Make sure your child is completing the yellow Reading Log Challenge for March is Reading Month! They will have a chance to surprise Mr. Steinhaus!
