Dear Glennwood Families,
I recently came across this Hopi proverb, “One finger cannot lift a pebble” and it got me thinking about all of the people and organizations that come together to support Glennwood and make it the incredible place that it is! One of the major supporters that help us to enrich the Glennwood experience is our wonderful PTA! We could not do all that we do without their support. Did you know that PTA does all of these things?
Funded the individual School Supply Packs for each student at Glennwood for virtual learning this year
Provides funds for teacher grants, teacher training, and school improvements throughout the school year
Provides supplies and resources for the classroom
Hosts social/community-building events for Glennwood families
Funds garden and playground maintenance
Supports field studies, yearbook, school directory, and spiritwear
Acts as a forum for families to provide feedback to the school staff and Principal
Represents Glennwood at the district level for relevant CSD Elementary School or educational issues
And so much more!
Go to "My Info/Sign In" in the top right corner; follow the prompt to enter your email and the password: soareagles
Follow the prompts to create your own password.
Click here to pay your dues (additional donations are welcome if you are able!).
We are so appreciative of all that the PTA does to enhance the experiences for our kids, families and staff at Glennwood! Please join them in supporting Glennwood!
Warmest regards,
Holly Brookins, PhD
Math Materials Pick-Up, Tuesday, 09/22, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Please come by the school to pick up a set of math manipulatives for your child! This will be a drive-through process through the carpool line. Please wear a mask. If you cannot come by then, reach out to Karen Hearn and she can set up another time for pick up. We can also deliver, if necessary. Please have a sign with your child’s name and grade so that we can easily pop the materials into your trunk or back seat and keep everyone safe!
I wanted to mention what looks like a wonderful exhibit at the High Museum, PICTURE THE DREAM: THE STORY OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT THROUGH CHILDREN’S BOOKS. I personally love picture books and believe they have the power to convey messages and stories that otherwise could never have been told. The exhibit was curated by author Andrea Davis Pinkney, who collaborates with her husband, illustrator Brian Pinkney. I hope you're able to check it out!
Glennwood's FLYbrary Heading Into Week Four! Have you signed up?
First, thank you for signing up for FLYbrary. We hope that this will bring lots of smiles to your children as they check out books from the library. Second, thank you for your patience with the process. We are still working on ironing out a few issues.
Here are a few helpful reminders:
1. GL FLYbrary only runs on Tuesdays.
2. Please remember that all books must be placed on hold by the cutoff time of 12:00 pm on Mondays.
3. PICK UP Participants - Books will be placed outside on the front doorsteps on Tuesdays from 11:30 am -3:30 pm. If they are not picked up during those hours, they will be returned to the media center. You will be able to pick them up again the following Tuesday.
4. BUS DELIVERY Participants - Please make sure you are following the bus on the app tracker. If you missed your bus stop delivery for pick up, your books will be placed outside the school on front doorsteps until 3:30 pm on Tuesday. If they are not picked up, we will pick them up and try sending them again on the bus the following week. If you prefer returning the books via the bus delivery service, please fill out THIS FORM by 12:00 pm on Mondays so that your bus stop will be added to the roster.
5. You may return books anytime to the school and place them in the bin permanently located on front doorsteps.
6. Remember that students can only have a maximum of four books checked out at a time. Please only place four books on hold at a time. Also, if another student places the same book on hold and has a cleared patron record, we'll have to check the books out to them. In other words, the holds are first come, first served.
7. You only need to sign up for FLYbrary one time and not every week.
Sign Up for the Glennwood FLYbrary here. Please watch this video tutorial on how to place books on hold.
Please recycle! Your books will be delivered in a plastic bag. Please return your books in the same plastic bag so that we may recycle these week to week.
Thank you again for participating and for your patience and flexibility. If you have any questions regarding GL FLYbrary, please email Mrs. Rittenhouse at drittenhouse@csdecatur.net or Mrs. Dishman at adishman@csdecatur.net.
Detailed information about signing up for bus delivery is in the pdf document below and also on our website.
It is important that we have your child's health information to include medications, conditions, allergies, etc. CSD has moved the typical beginning of the school year household data updated medical forms, opt-out forms, and handbook sign-offs to the parent portal. On Tuesday, September 1, parents received an email with a link to access the update in the parent portal.
It is important for parents or guardians to complete these forms and sign offs by September 25. Please note, only parents and guardians in the primary household will have access to fill out the information for the annual data update. Please review the 2020-2021 K-12 District Handbook and Code of Conduct and Restorative Practices Handbook prior to completing the update.
Directions for accessing the data update can be found in the graphic below.
For more detailed information, please watch this video.
Thank you for your time. We hope that it is a successful school year for your family!

Uploading Student Work to Google Classroom
Many Google Classroom assignments require that students upload their work. By configuring the Google Classroom app on an iPhone, parents may help students easily upload their completed work to their classroom and turn in assignments. If you need support in doing this, please review this video tutorial Mr. C created to help families with this virtual learning tool.
If you need to complete a request for a tech ticket, please follow this LINK. Before entering a tech ticket, please check on the CSD's Tech Help Support Page for parents and students first.
