A note from principal cline
US History does not exist without African American History. Tuesday, February 1st marked the beginning of Black History Month which we proudly honor at CMVHS. This includes honoring the contributions of African Americans but also the sacrifices. Black History Month lifts up the rich cultural heritage, victories and challenges that have shaped the United States. President Barack Obama summed it up well from the reception for Black History Month Reception at the White House on Feb. 18, 2016:
"Black History Month shouldn't be treated as though it is somehow separate from our collective American history or somehow just boiled down to a compilation of greatest hits from the March on Washington or from some of our sports heroes,” "It's about the lived, shared experience of all African Americans, high and low, famous and obscure, and how those experiences have shaped and challenged and ultimately strengthened America,"
Each year a different theme emerges for Black History Month. This year’s Black History Month Theme is Black Health and Wellness. The theme honors the legacy of Black medical, health and wellness contributors. This theme is prudent as we continue to face challenges from the Covid-19 global pandemic which has disproportionately impacted minority communities. Please join us in celebrating Black History not just in February but every day and every month at CMVHS!
