Padilla Elementary School
Providing every student with the keys to open the doors of their future.
A Note from Principal Purfurst
Thank you all for supporting your students with the implementation of required masks at school. Your support at home helps us to lessen the likelihood that the Tri-County Health Department requires classes or potentially the entire school to temporarily shift to remote learning.
I wanted to make sure that we communicated with you regarding some adjusted expectations we are required to now follow due to the Tri-County Health Department Public Health Order regarding masks in schools.
- These past two weeks we have been offering masks to students as they enter the building. We will continue to make these available to students who do not come to school with a mask.
- Starting on Tuesday, September 7th, we are required to contact the family of any student who chooses not to wear a mask at school unless your child has a medical mask exemption (see page 3 under "C. Exemptions" in the Public Heath Order above).
- We will make multiple requests for students to wear masks before contacting families.
- During that conversation, we will ask that you please speak to your child and ask them to wear a mask.
- If you choose not to have your child wear a mask, we are required to have you pick your child up from school, and we are required to mark your student with an unexcused absence for "Failure to follow public heath order."
I know that this continues to be a contentious issue, but we appreciate your support in helping your children understand that the adults at school are simply following the rules they are required to implement. By working together, we can help keep the focus on learning for all of our Polar Bears!
October Count Day!
Parking Lot Update
As we enter our second month of school at Padilla, there are a couple items we would like to clean up within the parking lot drop off/pick up process. Overall, things are going very smoothly and we are appreciative of your patience and help with this process. However, as we grow in the not so distant future, we know that the number of vehicles in the lot before and after school will increase causing more delays and some frustrations.
Please be aware of the following:
The left lane is not a drop off or pick up lane. This lane is a pass through lane used to exit the lot after you have dropped off or picked up your student.
The right lane (Hug and Go) is not a parking lane. If you need to get out of your car to let your student out, please consider parking in the lot to do so. Having your students sit on the passenger side of your car will help speed the drop off process up. (The kinder and pre-school lot are the exception to this as we encourage parents to use this horseshoe to park and bring their students to the gates or the door for preschool)
Please pull forward as far as possible so that we can invite as many cars as possible into the lot. If you can wait to drop off your child until after the first crosswalk, this will help speed up the process for all
We are going to have crosswalk areas painted into the lot soon and we ask that everyone does their part and use the crosswalk areas to get where they need to go at Padilla. At this time, we aren’t sure what the city will be able to provide our community with, as far as crosswalks/stop signs onto Longs Peak Street are concerned. Within our lot, we will be adding additional monitors in order to help families of our kinder and pre-k students cross the parking lot safely to the horseshoe. Eventually we will be asking all families to avoid crossing that area of the lot as we know things can get busy before and after school towards the parking lot exit.
Thank you for your patience as well as your willingness to help everyone safely and efficiently get to school and then home every day!

Adult Learning
This week teachers engaged in learning about all the different resources that are available to support them in reaching their professional learning goals this year. Learning Lab Mondays will allow our teachers to dive deeper into their understanding of the 27J tools and resources. Professional Learning on Wednesdays are a chance for our teachers to dig into the evidence they have collected towards their goal and observe fellow colleagues in action. Thursdays are dedicated to collaboration time which allows teachers to identify and plan next steps towards their goals with their grade level teams. Finally teachers can engage in Student-Centered Coaching Cycles with our Instructional Coach in order to set student learning goals, collect student evidence, plan instruction based on the evidence collected, and have support in the classroom to implement their plan through co-teaching. With so many resources in place to support us in reaching our goals of increasing student achievement at Padilla, we have no doubt that we will be successful!
