Sally Lakdawala, Account teacher at East Leyden High School- “ In order to work most corporate accounting jobs, you will need to have a bachelors degree in the field. Taking additional course work and sitting for the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam is a great option that will open many doors for you and set you apart from other candidates."
"As far as the daily tasks for someone working as an accounting...this can vary based on the role. Most accountants work with members of management to help make decisions for the business. Their role is to determine how decisions will affect the money.”
Michael Hayworth, Accounting teacher at West Leyden High School- "There are many different types of accountants. Each type completes different tasks on a daily basis. Most colleges have a 5-year program which leads to a bachelors and a masters degree. Most accounting programs are rigorous and a lot of students end up changing majors along the way. Many accountants also take the CPA exam, which is extremely difficult."
"Work hard everyday in all that you do. If you are going to do something, do it well. The accounting students with the best grades, generally get the best employment opportunities, but even the average accounting student usually ends up with a pretty good job."
