GSRP STAFF NEWS
October 12th-16th
I hope everyone had a chance to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather. I have a feeling it may have been our last short sleeve weather weekend! Please see this week's staff newsletter for important information and dates!
Staff Professional Development...
I think you will all agree that we have had some very good staff professional development in the area of health and safety. Thank you to nurse Megan for coming to do our CPR training on our early release day last week. Megan also did our seizure, asthma and allergy training on September 3rd. The CPR training will fulfill our licensing requirement for 2015-2016. Remember that we have to keep our CPR certification up to date and renew every year. Your training certificates may say that your training is good for two years, however, child care licensing requires you to be renewed every year. Our staff files will be audited to ensure all staff have met this requirement. Last Friday's all day health training at the GISD went well with the foundation that Megan had provided. Interesting topics that were added included immunization requirements, administering of medication, communicable disease reporting and procedures. We got to hear from the experts in the county. We should be ready to handle health emergencies, but let's hope that we do not have to! Remember to record your professional development hours on your PD log in the office. Your 2015-2016 child care licensing/PD log should have already had five professional development sessions recorded!
Arrival and Dismissal...
Thank you for your help during our first week of valet. Staff stepped up to make sure that we were being careful to identify parents and designated caregivers. Child safety is our number one priority! We can never be too careful during dismissal, and it was reassuring to hear the conversations between staff over the radios calling for double checks! Please continue to be extra diligent during pick up times. Having your emergency cards on hand and making sure you are available and visible during pick up times is appreciated. The GSRP office will be sending out an update to parents to let them know that waiting until 3:45, rather than 3:40 to get in line for p.m. pickup will make traffic go much smoother. I believe it went very well for being the first week of valet! Thanks to Mr. Harper and the Central staff for helping us to make this adjustment as well.
A request from the office...
Please provide Carrie with a list of your Halloween Party volunteers as soon as possible. She will need this to verify names in Synergy and get as many name tags ready as possible. We will also have a table set up at the door with chrome books to look up unexpected guests. Remember that we are not limiting the amount of parents that can come. Classroom parties are very special "first" in the lives of many parents and we want to help make it a great memory for the parents and children. Central will be having their parties on Friday, so there should not be an issue with parking. We will most likely be parading through the first grade classrooms as we did last year. More details to come...
Fire Safety Week!
Michelle Murphy's brother in law, Eric Schroeder, from the Davison Fire Department will be bringing one or more fire trucks for our students to see. We will get more details to you as we find out the date and time that he is able to be here with the truck. Mr. Harper is on board with this and we will be keeping him in the loop with details to ensure we have a safe location for our students to experience this activity. Thanks for arranging this Michelle!
Davison Early Childhood Specialist Update...
As you know, Nita Bhatt has moved on to a new position the Lewis-Cass ISD. Our interim ECS will be Heather Williamson. Heather will be fulfilling the dual role of our ECS and special education consultant in room 1 until the ECS position is filled. I spoke to Angie Moore at the GISD this morning and she let me know the ECS position is posted.
