Student Highlights

PKMS students will be taking to the road as both our boys' and girls' basketball teams travel to county tournaments on Feb. 4th. The PKMS academic team came in second in the state for academic team and Grayson Fluery was recognized as the top scorer in the state for middle schools. This team will begin raising money for the national competition in Chicago, IL in May. Students should be finalizing their science fair projects as there are only two weekends left before projects, finalized reports, and log books must be turned in to science teachers. We also will be ramping up our focus on the attributes of premier students for the month of Feb. as we focus on two attributes each week in advisory.

Basketball Heads to the Playoffs

PKMS Basketball Champs got the crowd pumped up with some intramural events during the winter sports Pep Rally. The teams took a moment to give recognition to Kobe Bryant by holding up "24." Come and support the boys and girls b-ball teams as they take on Kennedy Middle School in the playoffs on Tuesday at 5:30 at Schofield Middle School.

Does Your Student Have All Their Supplies?

The time of year has come to double check book bags and ensure that students have all of the materials that they need to do their in class work. We are especially struggling with students who have no pencils, paper, and ear buds. Additionally, we are always in need of tissues, hand sanitizer, and paper towels. If you need assistance with supplies, Ms. Dukes can help to provide students with common classroom needs. Just swing by attendance!

Innovative Action Research Project

Sixth, 7th, and 8th grade teachers have started collaborations with their students on the Innovative Active Research Projects a.k.a Science Fair Projects. ELA teachers are assisting students with researching valid sources and putting sources in correct MLA formatting for the Works Cited Pages. Science teachers are assisting students with writing valid hypotheses, identifying variables (IV, DV, and CV), researching materials, writing procedures, and collecting data. Math teachers will assist students, after winter break, with creating data tables/graphs based on data collected. Social Studies teachers will assist with helping students write valid conclusions and creating new questions for further study. Exploratory teachers are assisting by embedding the scientific design and engineering processes in their content lessons, when applicable. All 6th grade students will be completing projects in small groups during class sessions. Seventh and eighth grade students will be completing individual projects or group projects outside of school. This school-wide collaborative process began in October and will conclude in March with the CSRA Regional Science Fair at the University of South Carolina-Aiken. Please see below for all of the innovative action research materials.
