Woodbury Weekly Update for Families
December 4, 2023
Welcome to our weekly update! We are thrilled to keep you informed about the happenings at our school, celebrations & achievements and upcoming events, ensuring you're an active part of your students educational journey. In each update, you'll find highlights of the past week and a preview of what's to come, fostering a strong sense of community and collaboration between the school and our cherished families. Most weeks will be brief, but at times there is important information or updates that help support us in your involvement in our little school. Thank you for taking the time to read it!
A Peek at Our Week
Reminder: Winter Family Fun Night is NEXT WEEK on December 7th from 5:30-7:30 p.m.. There will be a hot dog dinner sponsored by our Woodbury PPA as well as a hot cocoa bar provided by Harvest Chapel. Enjoy holiday music and intermittent singalongs while you eat in the multipurpose room. We will have other fun activities including therapy dog visits, crafts, a STEM activity, winter read aloud, phot ops and more. Participate in a scavenger hunt to enter to win a winter themed basket! This is an open house event so please come during the two hours that works for your family. We are excited to have our families all together to enjoy each other, visit and have a little fun too.
Holiday Dress up days begins on December 6th! We are looking forward to this festive time together.
SAFETY REMINDER: Please pull all the way up to the end of the drop off lane on 2nd St. Beginning next week we will place a cone to the pull up spot for reference. Also, please do not drop students off across the street on 2nd Street. Having students cross the street while others are trying to pull up and through the line is dangerous. Thank you for your help.
Be sure to check out the many fliers below!
Luci Cartwright arrived in a big way today! She was the winner of the Sandwich Fire Department Fire Safety Poster Contest!
Hey, I showed the Woodbury Way! Adrian E. was chosen to be a book fair assistant next week. He will help work the shop with Mrs. Ballas, learning to run the register, provide great customer service and check shoppers out. Keep up the great work! Today Roman and Greyson were outstanding office assistants!
Grade level shirts are in and will be sent home today! A big thank you to our Woodbury PPA Community for purchasing a shirt for every student and staff member in our building. We are so grateful! Another shoutout to Woodbury PPA member and parent, Mrs. Marshall from Who Gives a Craft? for making all of the shirts! We love them!
Our Woodbury tree is up at the Festival of Trees at Classic Cinemas complete with student made ornaments. Each year we divide our ornaments up between our tree at Woodbury and the one at the festival! Be sure to stop by and take a picture by the tree if you make it there! Thank you to our PPA for putting up and decorating the tree!

Holiday Shop is Coming to Woodbury!
Our Woodbury PPA is bringing The Holiday Shop to Woodbury! This is the first year we are trying out the holiday shop for our students and we are so excited!
The holiday shop allows our students to shop for gifts for family and loved ones and experience the joy that comes with thoughtfulness and being able to give to others who are near and dear to them.
Gifts are low in price and students will be able to preview the items and then shop on a designated day with their class.
Shopping Days & Hours are:
Monday: Students Preview Shop 12:30-2:00
Tuesday: Kindergarten 12:30-2:00
Wednesday: 1st Grade 12:30-2:00
Thursday: 2nd Grade 12:30-2:00
Friday: Third Grade & Last Minute Shopping 12:30-3:00
To visit the shop and preview items or make a list in advance please scan the QR code ON THIS LETTER below or visit: https://woodburyelm.myschool.holidayshop.org/
As we approach this festive season, we cherish the tradition of every child experiencing the delight of selecting a special gift at our holiday shop. Yet, we recognize that not all families can readily join in. With the “Spread the Festive Cheer” initiative, you can anonymously sponsor a student to shop if you would like. You can simply note that you would like to sponsor a general student or note a specific student.
SEL Corner with Mrs. Garland
Hello there Woodbury Families!
Woodbury in December is one of my favorite times of the year! Spirits are bright, halls are decked, and all the dress up days are so fun. Make sure to take extra time to rest and recharge during the busyness of the holidays! In Second Step, each class has moved on to our second unit which focuses heavily on emotion identification and emotion management. We will be learning how to identify emotions in ourselves and others and apply strategies to manage these emotions. These skills are important to build strong relationships, have higher self esteem, be good problem-solvers, make better decisions, and be better listeners. December’s core value of the month is respect. We are looking for students who are acting in a way that shows they care about themselves, others, and the environment. Let’s keep showing the Woodbury Way! I hope you all have a happy and healthy holiday season.

Completed Dental Exam forms are required for current Kindergarten and second grade students by May 15th. If you are unable to obtain the required dental exam, please complete the Dental Exam Waiver.
Healthy Sleep for the HOLIDAYZZZZ
Make the most of the season by staying well-rested with these science-based sleep tips:
Kids 12 and under need at least 9 hours of sleep each night.
Try to keep a consistent sleep schedule by having your family go to bed and get up at the same times every day, even on holiday breaks or when learning remotely.
Avoid caffeine and avoid large meals right before bed.
If you want to nap over the holiday break, aim for a 20-minute nap, which experts say is the best time length to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go.
We sleep better when the room is between 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit (65-70 degrees for babies and toddlers).
Make sure to stay active over the holidays, as physical activity during the day can facilitate better sleep at night.
Turn all screens off at least an hour before bedtime.
