Saxton Newsletter 20.5.22

“What is the greatest animal of all?”

To help our studies, we are hoping to keep a hive of bees in the woodland wildlife area. These will be set up professionally by Leeds University. If you are concerned about this, or your child has an allergic reaction to bee stings, please inform their teacher or the school office so that we can take this into account in our risk assessment.

Bee Week

This week we celebrated Bee Week in School. Not only did we all wear black and yellow in honour of the bees, but we also had a visit from a zoologist from Leeds University who came to tell us all about bees. She showed us some bees and their honeycombs and we learnt so much about these fascinating insects. In addition to this, each class has been learning lots of bee facts including about how a bee colony works. Today the whole school made some bee bombs together to take home and spread in their gardens to help save the bees in the local area.

Sports Day - 26/5/22

Don’t forget that Sports Day will take place next Thursday, 26th May. Gates will open to parents at 1.15pm, with races commencing around 1.30pm.

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

As part of our celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee we will be planting on the field next Friday. You may see that an area is being prepared for this and is fenced off. We have selected a golden alder to represent the Queen’s regality and longevity.

School Lunches

Special Lunch Reminder - On Thursday 26th May the cook will be making our Special Jubilee Tea Party.

Please see the Summer 2022 Lunch menu below. Next week we will be on Week 2 of lunches.

Children can decide daily whether they are having a school dinner or packed lunch.

Please ensure you discuss the menu each day with your child so they can decide what they would like to order. Once they know their choices, they will choose this each morning with their teacher during registration.

Each day there are 4 choices, either the hot dinner, hot vegetarian option, jacket potato with a choice of toppings or a sandwich. The sandwich and jacket potato always come with a selection of vegetables/salad on the side and have the full pudding choice for that day.

Packed Lunches - if you are sending grapes in your child's packed lunch, can you please ensure that these are cut in half.
