Return to Learn

Weekly Newsletter 8/28/2020

Dear Judson ISD Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to the new school year! Even though we wish that students and staff can be together, we are still so excited about this year of learning and new adventures. I am so proud of the way everyone has worked to adjust during the first couple of days of virtual classes, not to mention our JECA teachers and students starting first and leading the way. For me, this has been very bittersweet because I enjoy spending time with students and visiting with them. This past week as I visited campuses, the hallways were very quiet and the only students that were in attendance belonged to our own teachers. As you can see in the picture below, I was able to visit at a distance but could see their excitement and joy of being back at school. Though things are not perfect, we are off to a good start! I know some of you experienced technical issues and some are still waiting for assistance. Remember that our tech team is here to support you if you need it.

Safe Haven Campus

Our virtual learning program is sustainable, prioritizes student and staff safety, and mirrors the regular school day as much as possible. Of course, there will be challenges, but we will work together to address them, and students will continue to learn and grow. I thank all of our Judson ISD families for their patience and support. We are working to make this the very best possible learning experience for our students. I would like to express my appreciation for the staff for all their hard work to make this a success. Notably, our principals and campus leadership teams who have coordinated this transformation of the way we normally operate.

I ask that you continue to ask questions, seek guidance, and help us support your child in this new J-Learning at home experience. Let’s continue to get the school year off to a great start. Thank you to the students, staff, and parents/guardians for your flexibility and partnership as we take this journey together! Take care, stay healthy and God bless you!

The food distribution will take place Friday, September 4th, 2020 from 1 PM - 5 PM at Ed Franz Elementary School, 12301 Welcome Dr., Live Oak, Tx. 78233. Dairy, meat, or fresh items will not be available at this distribution.

Safe Haven

Beginning September 8th, a Safe Haven option will be available for students who meet specific criteria:

  • A student has no internet connectivity at home.
  • A student receives Special Education Services through a specialized program such as Life Skills.
  • A student is a child of a single parent or two working parents and childcare is unavailable.
  • A student is a child of a first responder (law enforcement, fire department, EMS, medical hospital personnel, active duty military).

Students will be monitored by Judson ISD staff and will be given a space on their home campus to participate in their virtual instruction. All students must follow the Safe Haven guidelines including wearing a mask at all times and having their temperature checked prior to entering the building. For full details of the Safe Haven guidelines, English or Spanish. Campuses will contact parents who have expressed interest in Safe Haven through the Parent Commitment Form survey with more information.

Converse, Get Connected!

Hotspots available for three weeks check out to City of Converse residents with a valid library card. All hotspots can be checked out through the Converse Public Library in the same fashion other materials are circulated.

Please call the Converse Public Library at (210) 659-4160 for information.

New Mask Requirements

Currently, the Governor’s Executive Order for wearing masks is ages 10 years and up; however, Judson ISD will require that all students wear a face covering. Students will be required to wear masks when riding the bus, as they enter the building and as they transition through the halls including in the classroom.

Students with special needs receiving Special Education may be given options, through their IEP, regarding the face coverings they may wear depending on their medical condition.

Please look at our Return to Learn Guidance Document for more procedures and guidelines.

Meal Routes and Schedules

Judson ISD buses are delivering breakfast and lunch for students. Keep in mind that both the deliveries and curbside services are on Mondays and Thursdays. Each of those days multiple meals are distributed so each student has enough food for all five days of the school week. Please make sure to have your child's student ID or student ID number to pick up the meals.

If you live 2 miles or more away from your campus, there may be a JISD bus route near you to assist with the following:

  • Breakfast and Lunch Delivery
  • Safe Haven Instruction Option
  • Face-to-Face Instruction Option

Use the JISD Transportation Route Finder (infoFinder) website to check your street address and campus. The website will also include the time and location of meal deliveries.

Please check the schedule for both services below.
