Queanbeyan Girl Guides
Term 2 - All things guides
So much happening
Big news is the Biscuits are here and ready to eat oops I mean sell. Come down to the Hall and grab a box or two as part of our major fundraising effort.
In an effort to increase communication we have also included in this edition the programs from each of the nights so we can all stay on the same page so to speak.
Don't forget it comes but once a year - Queanbeyan Girl Guides AGM! Come and join in on the fun and put your skills and abilities to work with an organisation that makes a real difference.
Another reminder is that term fees are now due. This money is very important and with it our girls continue to do amazing new and exciting things. A special note on finance and showing how committed our leaders are is recently our leaders forgone having their training paid via the fundraising/fees efforts instead putting this money back into our hard earned pool of funds going to equipment for our girls. If you see a leader around just give them an extra smile and remind yourself to pay those fees!
Calling for volunteers and ideas of what we can sell at Queanbeyan Christmas in July Markets on 24 July 2016. We are thinking food is always very popular so let’s get our baking/thinking hats on. More information can be found here
ANZAC Day - Lest we forget
Thank you to all the girls and supportive parents who came to watch our Girl Guides join in on the ANZAC day Ceremony last month. Very special moment to see the beautiful wreath being placed on the day.
Science in the Garden
The Biscuits are here - nom nom nom
Guides Australia has refreshed the range for 2016, keeping the flagship biscuit while adding some new, exciting variants. We have ordered the (traditional) Australian classic Girl Guides vanilla biscuit, a traditional favourite is only $3.50. The all NEW choc biscuit: a triple-choc biscuit filled with a soft choc centre! It's a triple threat; crunchy, soft and indulgent all at the same time only $3.50 RRP.
This is one of our annual major fundraising activities which we would like every girl to support if possible. Please pick up some biscuits and sell (eat) between now until 30 June 2016.
Junior Guides - whats on for term 2
Tonight we’ve got some fun activities for all the Mum’s, Grandmother’s, Aunts, or other significant woman in the girls worlds. Bring along a t-shirt that you’re happy to have cut up, and we’ll be creating a funky bag! We’ll also have some Patrol-based games for everyone to work on.
Week 3, 16 May – Munzee by moonlight
Bring a good torch and dress warmly. We’re going to be outside on a Munzee hunt. We’ll start off at the hall and make our way down along the river working in Patrols. Each Patrol will have a Leader and a GPS device to aid us in our search. Pick-up will be from the tennis courts on the corner of Morisset and Ford Streets, in the tennis court carpark off Ford Street (behind McDonald’s).
Week 4, 23 May – WAGGGS
We’ll be spending this night learning more about the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). Along with an action story or 2, we’ll be using devices and apps to help in a scavenger hunt.
Saturday 28 May – Region Archery (7+) REGISTRATION REQUIRED
You’ll receive a flyer about this closer to the date.
Week 5, 30 May – Camp preparation
We’re hoping to have a camp in Term 3, so we’ll be spending a few meetings doing preparation. We need to come up with a theme, and the Patrols will work on a skit, song or dance – with the Leader’s doing a few demonstrations. There will also be time for girls working on badges, including JBP, to talk to the Leaders about where they’re at.
5 June – World Environment Day Region Tree Planting
You’ll receive a flyer about this closer to the date.
Week 6, 6 June – Under the stars
A little star gazing, and a game of spotlight. Another night where the girls need to dress warmly and bring a good torch with them.
Week 7, 13 June – Campfire preparation and JBP badge work
We’ll have song books with all the songs we’ve worked on learning through the term and we’ll spend some time going through them. Also another night for the girls to go through badge work with the Leaders.
Week 8, 20 June – Camp preparation
Tonight’s focus will be on a variety of games that teach the girls such things as what they need to pack for camp, how to make a camp bed, etc, and finalising any camp-based things.
Week 9, 27 June – Campfire and JBP presentation
For our last night of term we’ll be having a campfire (hopefully a real one), with singing and Patrol skits. We’ll finish off with a presentation for our girls who have completed their Junior BP award.

Term fees are due - so important
Your annual fees go to 3 areas – NSW-ACT (membership), District (PSG), and Unit (subs). These fees are separate, but equally important, and without your contributions it is difficult to run our District and our Unit. Your contributions start at $320 for a 12 month period.
NSW-ACT membership fee – $120 per year Membership renewal notices arrive by email or mail, or are paid upon joining Guides. If this fee is not paid your daughter becomes unfinancial, which (among other things) means she is not covered by insurance and must be restricted in attending events and activities. The fee can be paid online, directly to NSW-ACT HQ.
Parent Support Group fee – $120 per year (or $35 per term) This fee is essential for the running of our District. It covers hall and ground insurance, maintenance and development, and utilities, and assists with training costs for the leaders. Consider paying 4 terms upfront to receive a discount of $5 per term. Make payments by direct deposit to
Account name – Queanbeyan District Support Group GGA NSW, Account number – 10351570, BSB – 062-593 (using your child’s name as a reference).
Pay in cash by putting your fee in an envelope with your child’s name and Unit, and give it to the leaders so we can keep a record for you.
Subs – $80 per year (or $20 per term) to reduce administrative requirements we are no longer collecting subs weekly or as a lump sum.
