This week in reading, we will continue our work on identifying the most important parts of a story. We will be focusing on retelling the story through identification of the characters, the setting, and the important details. We will be working on inferring, or determining the central message or theme and how we can make connections to that when reading. Practice with your child by asking them to retell a story after they have read it.

There are no word wall words this week. We will be using these last few weeks to review and assess mastery of word wall words.

Please read nightly with your child. Even 20 minutes a day can make a huge difference in your child's reading progress. Allow them to read independently, aloud to you, or even to a pet or stuffed animal. There is no right or wrong way to read! Your student has a book baggie each week that will provide a variety of books for them to read. Make it a priority and it will make a difference!

Your trash is our treasure!

Mrs. Collins is collecting plastic lids. When the school collects 400 pounds of lids, we will send them off to have a new bench for the school made! Don't toss out those lids...water bottle lids, soda lids, butter lids, peanut butter lids, shampoo and detergent lids, etc. Plastic only and please rinse out the lids before sending in. The last weigh-in showed that we are over halfway there.
