PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Families,
We have been in school for exactly one month and we are settling into routines and practices that support our students' learning. We have been getting to know one another, meeting new friends, learning about school and bus rules. Now that we have created a foundational understanding of expectations in our classrooms, we continue to partner with one another in reminding our students and their peers of what these expectations look like in the classroom and on the playground. Our students are working actively in being the best Haynes Hawk they can be.
This past month at Haynes, our students and staff have participated in two ALL school meetings in the Cafeteria, listened to morning meetings announced by two 5th graders each day, and supported the best September food drive that Haynes has ever experienced.
As we progress throughout the year, please visit our website and twitter for more from in and around Haynes Elementary!
Sincerely,
Nadine Ekstrom, Ph.D.
Interim Principal
Building-Based Substitute Teachers
Haynes is still looking for two building-based substitute teachers. If you are interested, please submit your application on Schoolspring.com. If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher on a per Diem basis, please reach out to Nancy Carbutt at our front office.
ALL School Meeting
We had some great topics at our ALL school meeting this week. We reminded our students the importance of positive communication. Through this presentation we acknowledged that being a good listener is a part of communication where we can learn from one another. Another topic we addressed was the buddy bench on the playground and how this can be used throughout the school year. We ended our ALL school meeting by congratulating the entire Haynes community for exceeding our expectations on the food drive collection. In September, Haynes contributed more items to the food pantry than ever. We thank you for this support.
This Week's Hawk Stars
Each day, students are granted the opportunity to receive Hawk Sightings, which are acknowledgments that they have gone above and beyond in supporting our school rules. Their name goes into a grade level jar, and one person is selected from each grade level to represent the weekly HAWK STAR. We are very proud of these students.
Car Line Safety Reminders
Thank you for your continued support of our safe arrival and dismissal via our car line. Please note two important reminders about our shared expectations:
DO NOT PASS: Our car line is a single-lane only. Only pass if a staff member directs you to or a car has its flashers on ahead of you at the very front of the line.
PASSENGER SIDE EXIT ONLY: Students may only exit on the passenger side of the car next to the curb.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Some have begun asking about parent/teacher conferences. These dates are November 2, 9, and 16th. Your teachers will begin reaching out with you to set up conference times. We look forward to seeing you at these conference visits.
Bus
The topic of busing is quickly becoming our favorite topic. I have enjoyed riding on the busses in the morning. It has been a great experience for me to get to know more about our students and the Sudbury community. Ms. Williams has been on busses as well. We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing the importance of school safety, specifically when riding the bus. We have seen some amazing improvements and we know that it is from the support of our parents. We thank you!
Throughout the year, I will continue to ride on the busses. Students have actually begun asking me when I will be on their bus again, which I enjoy the invitation.
Bus Delay
We would like to inform you that if a bus departs Haynes Elementary School after 2:40 pm, we will notify families via text.
