Teacher Professional Learning Day

The FHC faculty had a great professional learning day on Friday, September 21st. During the morning session, the teachers enjoyed the last presentation from Dr. Jill Bose-Deakins from the North Suburban Special Education District for our CHAMPS! initivative. CHAMPS! is a positive and proactive approach to classroom management. During the afternoon, we received training by a consultant from Blackbaud. Blackbaud is a learning management solution that serves the specific needs of private schools. We continue to learn more about the program's features and capabilities. The solution provides teachers with digital record keeping related to attendance and grades. Additionally, it provides teachers with the potential to place online assignments and newsletters. We will continue to provide professional training to encourage our teachers to make Blackbaud a one stop shop for parents to connect with their childrens' experience at FHC.

8th Grade Leadership Day @ St. Catherine LaBoure

On Tuesday September 25th, our 8th grade students joined the 8th grade classes from the other nine council schools for a one day leadership retreat. We celebrated mass and then enjoyed a presentation titled "Hunting for Elephants". The talk encouraged students to reflect on their passions and dreams and how to make them a reality. After returning to FHC, I met with the 8th grade students to discuss the following questions: "What makes FHC Great?" and "What school traditions do you recall?"

The summary of responses from, "What makes FHC Great?" ---friends, traditions, teachers and staff, "small school so we know everyone".

For "What school traditions do you recall?" Floor Hockey Tournament in 2012, Mardi Gras in French Class, electric HoCo activities, and prayer partners.

As a new leader, it is great to learn about FHC from the students' perspective.
