Principals' Post
Hello Panther Families,
We are proud to announce that today, Glen Oaks School was recognized for a SECOND TIME as a National Blue Ribbon School! Recognized in the Exemplary High Performing category, Glen Oaks is one of only 23 Illinois schools granted this distinguished award. Schools in the Exemplary High Performing Schools category are among their state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
The U.S. Department of Education will formally recognize Glen Oaks as one of the 312 public and 50 private schools at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November.
U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos said in a statement that the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award affirms the hard work of student, educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content. The NBRS logo that graces a school’s building is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.
We are so proud of the hard work and dedication of our staff, students, and families. Congratulations!
Your partners in education,
Mrs. Kristin Reingruber, Principal
Dr. Carla Braun, Assistant Principal

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports at Glen Oaks School
Cool Tools
For the next few weeks, students will focus on Being Respectful on the Playground. In effort to teach these skills, teachers will implement “Cool Tools” into the classroom. These are mini lessons that teachers and staff members will use during the week to reinforce skills needed to follow our Panther Protocol. Our very first Cool Tool started on Monday and focused on Lining Up after the recess whistle has been blown. Students viewed a short video and discussed or used role-playing. Our first video demonstrated how to “Quiet, Freeze, and Listen” when our recess supervisors blow the whistle. This is done so that everyone lines up and enters the building quietly.
Next week’s video will feature students doing things the wrong way and the right way, including deciding who uses the ball, who goes first and asking a student to play who is all alone. Ask your child about being Respectful and Caring on the Playground!
School Store
This year the PBIS Committee will be having a school store at Glen Oaks. The school store will be open one day per month. We hope this will help students Be Here and Ready to Learn by always having their supplies.
Also, each month the PBIS will have a “monthly feature” that students can ‘buy’ with Panther Paws. For October, students that have earned 3 Panther Paws can turn them in to get a squishy. A copy of the order form will be sent home with your child this week. Please return it to your child’s homeroom with any money/paws attached if they’d like to purchase anything from the school store.
School Store is OCTOBER 1st for ALL STUDENTS at 8:15AM
3rd and 4th grade- Main GYM
2nd and 5th grade- APR
Family Reading Night is Coming Soon - October 16th
Books highlighted at Family Reading Night come from either the Illinois Monarch or Bluestem lists. The lists are comprised of 20 books each, which are compiled by the Association of Illinois School Library Educators. These books are nominated to win the Reader’s Choice Award for each category. The Monarch list is designed to encourage students from grades K-3 to read critically and become familiar with children’s books, authors and illustrators. The Bluestem list is designed for students in grades 3-5 who are ready for longer titles and more complex text than the books on the Monarch list. As a school, we encourage our students to explore the titles found on these lists. If students choose to participate, they will be able to cast their vote for the book they believe should win the award! For more information, visit www.aisled.org
We look forward to celebrating reading with our Panther families on Wednesday, October 16th!
