EISD's Special Education Department
2016-2017
Welcome to Edgewood's Special Education Department
Our Vision and Mission Statement
Our mission is to make EISD the preferred district for students and their families by providing instruction based on best practices, empowering teachers to be innovative and creative and by consistently offering opportunities to develop 21st century skills (communicating, collaborating, critical thinking and creating).
How we're getting there
The Special Education Department is ready and eager to get the school year rolling and off to a great start. As a department we are ready to meet the unique needs of each and every student who walks the halls of our EISD schools.
Each campus has a full or part time Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Facilitator who serves as a campus contact and who may facilitate ARD meetings. In addition, our campus case managers (Special Education Teachers) have first hand knowledge, training and skills on working with students with disabilities. EISD offers an array of instructional and related services based on the decisions made by the students' parents and other ARD committee members. Services and supports may include but are not limited to:
- Classroom accommodations and modifications
- In class support
- Resource
- Behavior Management Classroom (BMC)
- Learning in Functional Environments (LIFE Skills)
- Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD)
- Autism Itinerant Services
- Auditorily Impaired Itinerant Services
- Assistive Technology (AT)
- Speech and Language Therapy
Each campus has the support of our Special Education Department specialist and the backing of our Instructional or Compliance Coordinator and Director. As an organization we believe compliance is achieved through instructional excellence. For a listing of staff members, see our Special Education Staff Page.
In addition to student services, our Special Education Department offers support to families of students with disabilities. Our Home/School/Community Specialist and Lead Interpreter, Juanita Rosas, offers monthly parent trainings on a wide variety of topics. Topics are parent lead and all sessions are available in Spanish and English.
