Arts Magnet News!
August 22-26, 2022
Week 11, for Families and Community Oct. 17-21, 2022
Fall has begun!
Dear Altadena Eliot Arts Families,
What a wonderful time of year it is! The time between October and January fills our school hallways with joyful activities and much welcome cooler weather. Personally, it inspires me to bake, drink hot tea and take long walks.
This year feels especially hopeful as we're able to have a more normal year, one that we haven't experienced since 2019. Our students are more settled and our dedicated, hard working teachers are breathing life into our classrooms and programs. Thank YOU for sharing your beautiful children with us in PUSD.
On Monday we enjoyed our Hispanic Heritage Assemblies with a professional mariachi band. Our classes designed and decorated beautiful doors for our door decorating contests at both sites. The elementary doors were judged by our middle school ASB students and our middle school doors were judged by our classified team. Winners will be announced this week.

Join Us on Tuesday!
From our friends at HomeState, "We're asking families and their children to be mindful of the parking lot area. The line tends to form alongside the building, but we're doing our best to make sure the rest of the parking lot is free for traffic to flow in and out. "
Everyone Wear Orange on Wednesday!
Both of our sites are deeply committed to continuing the creation of kind, safe, relational schools that are student centered. One of the ways we work toward our goals, is by using the Capturing Kid's Hearts strategies campus-wide. Please have your child wear orange on Wednesday, October 19 and let's celebrate what unifies us in our beautiful unified school district!
Middle School Activities!
Join the Eliot Arts Orchestra! No experience is necessary - just a desire to create beautiful music! Harmony Project and LEARNs are offering a beginning violin class on Tuesdays & Thursdays 3:15 to 4:15 pm. See attached flyer for more information.
Let's Enter this Contest!
All students in grades K-8 are invited to participate in this art contest. Please contact Ms. Camargo at the elementary or Ms. Jessica Claire at the middle school. Middle school students can visit Mr. Moya for more information as well.
Open Enrollment!
- Open Enrollment Dates for the 2023-24 school year are now posted on our website. All current PUSD families will receive a hard copy of the Open Enrollment calendar in the mail in mid-October, and we will send extras to your school sites in October.
- Sibling and Program Priority Registration applications go live online Oct. 24, 2022, 9AM - Nov. 14, 2022, 4PM.
From our Middle School Librarian, Ms. St. Pierre
"One of the more successful displays in the library lately has been my challenge to the students: Dare to Read Banned Books. After sharing with ELA classes a bit about why books have been banned elsewhere, I’ve offered a “special” bookmark to those who check out a banned book and I keep running out - so many students want to read these books!"
NBBA PUSD District 1 Candidate Forum, 10/19 6:30 - 8:30p
Those who live in PUSD District 1 (https://www.pusd.us/site/Default.aspx?PageID=5107 ) have the opportunity to vote for the school board member to represent them. Please consider attending the upcoming candidate forum to hear from the candidates themselves. I believe this is the only Altadena specific candidate forum. If you live in District 2 (essentially east of Holliston), you will have the opportunity to vote in 2024.

From our middle school PTSA President!
Calling all Huskies!
A party is what you make it, and your PTSA is working to make the Creepy Carnival the first great party of the year at Eliot. That being said, we need volunteers and donations to make this happen. We have games and contests and food and prizes lined up. The price of admission for the Haunted Hallway gets you into the Carnival. The price for games and food is low. There is a "Sign-up-genius" so what are you waiting for?
