Barton Bobcats

Parent Weekly Newsletter: October 26th to October 30th

Hello Bobcats!

Parent Self Serve Reminder:

Parents please keep in mind that the last day for the 1st 9-weeks is November 6th. Keep in mind that the grades that are entered in TEAMS make up the grades that are on a student’s report card. Not all assignments in Schoology will be counted as grades in TEAMS. Teachers were required to open up all assignments in Schoology due to the district change in grading guidelines for the first semester. This means that assignments that are not completed will not show up as past due or missing, because the deadline is technically Nov 6th.

When you are checking PSS please check the Report Card tab and not the Progress tab. In the Report card tab you can click on the grade in red and it will take you to the gradebook of that course for your student. You can see what the student is missing or needs to redo and then go to Schoology and locate the assignment. If a student is re-submitting work, the teacher does not get a notice that the students has re-submitted. Teachers would have to go back and look to see If the grade changed. It is strongly recommended that students message/email their teacher to inform them when they re-submit work.

If any parent would like support in navigating Schoology, we will have staff on campus on Oct 28th from 4:30-6:00 in the Library to assist and answer any questions.

Living The Dream,

Mr. Loyd

The time will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria and each student can leave at any time to go home. We have a late bus that will be able to take students home as well at 5:15.

Each student needs to make sure that they have their device.

Literary Character Day- October 28th

Big picture

On October 28th, we will allow students to dress as their favorite Literary Character, if they would like to record themselves reading that children’s book. During Advisory/Bobcat Time, students will sign up for a 10 minute slot to have them videoed reading their book. Students will need to bring their own children’s book (Kindergarten-5th grade level), practice reading the book and dress as a literary character from that book. Barton will share these recordings with our feeder elementary schools. Virtual learners, please share your videos with Mr. Loyd in Google Drive and follow up with an email to aaron.loyd@hayscisd.net to confirm.

Thanksgiving Update from Child Nutrition

I want to update all of you on the upcoming Thanksgiving plans. As you are aware, we all have had to adjust our operations due to Covid-19. Some of the most important changes that affect Thanksgiving service the most are: not allowing non-essential adults on campus and serving virtual students curbside. Another issue we have to contend with is staffing and the shortages created by the pandemic.

Even with the changes our desire and plan is to deliver something special for our students and community. We recognize that the HAYS CISD community has already given up many things and we did not want to add to that list of losses. So we will be serving Thanksgiving meals this year to all students and we will have an adult option also.

Below are the highlights of what we are doing this year:

• All elementary campuses will serve Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday, November 19th. There will NOT be any separate catering lines.

• All secondary campuses will serve Thanksgiving lunch on Friday, November 20th. There will NOT be any separate catering lines.

Adults will be able to purchase meals via RevTrack online. I will send out additional information when this is all set up. Parents will be able to pick up their meals at the PAC in the parking lot on the 19th and 20th. We set up an offsite location for adult pick up in hopes of minimizing curbside lines at the campuses.

As soon as all of the particulars are settled, we will send any updates and additional information, including menus, to all of you.

Thanks,

Michael Thibodeaux

Director of Child Nutrition

Hays CISD Resources

The Hays CISD Clothes Closet has opened back up to serve families. Due to COVID-19, we are now requesting families fill out this Google form and we will do the shopping to fulfill the request. The form includes designated dates/times that families can select for contactless pick up. They will receive a call/email confirming with additional details. If they need clothes and food and are able to pickup, this is the form to fill out.

Our HaysHope2Go program has been fully operational and serving families weekly since March. We have a limited amount of personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, formula and diapers. If a family is currently on our HaysHope2Go list, we can drop off the clothing with their food delivery. Since March, we have served 678 families, 3,563 people with 45,855 meals. If you know of a family who does not have transportation (needs food only) and can benefit from delivery, please fill out this form:
