What is the Stamp Act

The Stamp Act was one of the most unpopular taxes ever passed by the British Government. The stamped act was passed by the British parliament on march 22,1765. Ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards were taxed. The money collected by the Stamp Act was to be used to help pay the costs of protecting the American frontier. The cost of the Stamp Act was very small. What made the colonist mad was that they came here with no money but still they want money for paper.


The colonists didn't think they should have to pay for something they had been doing for free for many years.the British government repealed the the British government repealed the Stamp Act in March 1766 but at the same time passed the Declaratory Act, which said that Great Britain was superior and boss of the American colonies "in all cases whatsoever.
