A message from our Staff Appreciation Committee
From the District: Three More Ways to Celebrate CSD Staff
1. Submit a photo, video, or story recognizing a teacher or staff member. We are looking for submissions from staff, students, parents, or community members. CSD will use these photos, videos, and stories on social media, CSD webpages, newsletters or eblasts to recognize our outstanding staff members who have done so much during this school year.
2. Submit a CSD staff member or teacher for a DEF Extra Mile Award! Every year, CSD award our staff members who have gone the extra mile for their students with the DEF Extra Mile awards. Students submit a CSD staff member then a panel of district judges will read these submissions and choose the winners. CSD is thankful to all our staff for going the extra mile for our students and we love to hear these stories about our compassionate staff. These should be written and submitted by CSD students.
3. Submit a CSD staff member who has shown compassion and care to a student during this difficult time for the DEF Clarence Strickland Make a Difference Award. This award from DEF recognizes a CSD employee who shows compassion and care in reaching out to a student in a time of great need or crisis. Nominations for this award are accepted from community members or staff of City Schools of Decatur. Since our schools have closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, CSD teachers and staff have continued to work tirelessly to support our students. Have you witnessed a staff person reaching out to a student during a time of great need or when faced with extraordinary difficulty?
Visit this page for complete details and links to nomination forms.
Talley Street Virtual Book Fair: May 11-15
Many classrooms have provided wish lists for the book fair. Beginning Monday, May 11, find your class by visiting the store's online orders page at https://littleshopofstories.indielite.org/. Look for "Find a Wishlist" at the top of the page and search by teacher name. If your class is not listed, gift cards are a great option (20% benefit to school does not apply to purchases of gift cards). If you have questions about the book fair, please contact Ms. Hanson at jhanson@csdecatur.net.

Class Composite Photos Available
Hey Parents! This is Charlie at Roger Cannon Photography! I know the last month has been difficult to navigate. We know that so many parents look forward to having class photos made in the spring but because of Covid-19 that was not possible this year. We wanted to offer you another option this year with our custom class composites. Here is a link so you can order these for your children. They will be mailed directly to you at your home. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, Thank you!

Yearbooks
Dear Talley PTO Members - Great news! The Talley Street 2020 Yearbooks have arrived. Please join me in thanking Kellei Johnstone and Sara Weathersby who worked together under some very difficult circumstances to format, proof and submit the yearbooks to our publisher. This would not have been possible without their efforts! The next step is to distribute the yearbooks to our members. We plan to combine the distribution of the yearbooks with the spirit wear orders that were placed earlier this year. We have that inventory on hand as well, but have not distributed it yet due to the school closure resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. We expect to announce a plan to distribute these items to our members at some point over the next few days, so please stay tuned for further announcements. Thank you again for supporting the Talley St. PTO.
Order Your Talley Street School Supplies for the 2020-21 School Year!
We know it’s hard to plan a few days in advance these days, much less think about the next school year, but we are hoping to take one thing off of your to-do list this summer with online school supply kits!
The PTO has partnered with 1st Day School Supplies to make it easy for families to order supplies for the upcoming school year at Talley Street. You can order supplies NOW through June 15. Go to http://1stdayschoolsupplies.com/kits.php?sid=1178528, and remember to choose your child's grade for the 2020-21 school year. Kits will be shipped directly to school at the end of July.
This service is optional for parents, and you do not have to order through the site - but the prices are very competitive and your school supply purchase will be done! Please note that there is an option to purchase additional kits to donate to the school if you would like to do so. Each child will have access to all necessary supplies in the classroom.
If you prefer to purchase school supplies on your own, supply lists are available here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ASnrPtlvKy5X6D9E3j_ZmmOnTEYK_sa4iXqwzeH3L0M/edit?usp=sharing.
Please reach out to Lauren Brown at laurenbrown216@gmail.com with any questions.

News from the Decatur Education Foundation
Our Step Up for Teachers campaign has begun! Do you want to honor a special teacher or CSD staff person with a written or video tribute? Just go to www.stepupforteachers.com. Your tribute contribution also includes a choice of a “We Step Up for Teachers” yard sign OR a “Congratulations Class of 2020” yard sign that will be delivered to your Decatur address. This campaign is more important than ever – not only are our teachers working under extraordinary circumstances, but many of our PTA’s fundraising events were cancelled, so raising funds for our schools and our teachers is more important than ever. Proceeds from the Step Up Campaign go right back into the classroom.
