Welcome to #TheTRWayForward 2021-22!
What a busy week! Having the teachers back gets this educator excited about the coming year. Taylor Road has such a great energy - our students are in great hands!
Regarding tomorrow and schedule verification day - traffic is incredible around Taylor Road when we host events. I apologize in advance, and our unique entrance (one way in and out) will test patience. Some advice for the best experience Friday:
- This is a great time to share positivity with parents, staff and -- most important -- the students. Be joyful!
- It would be great if your visit could be one adult with one student to limit the size of the groups in the building.
- Consider parking at CHS at walking up the hill. It will be a beautiful morning!
- Please do not block fire lanes with automobiles. Our school police officer is a great person, but safety comes first when he speaks with staff and parents. Please give him that respect.
- Our doors will not open until 9:00 AM to give our staff time to prepare your welcome.
- Students will be directed to homeroom for schedules - with an optional visit to the cafeteria to follow.
- Three hours is plenty of time to meet teachers. Your visit should not take more than 20 minutes - it is okay if you do not arrive until 11:30 :-)
- CHANGE: Due to the rising numbers of COVID in Johns Creek, we are holding off on giving lockers to students. This is a temporary hold, so please be patient and also hold off on requesting refunds just yet :-)
- Be strategic about what supplies are brought to school on Monday - as students will be using their backpacks during the school day.
- There will also be information stations in the halls and cafeteria for numerous groups and our PTA.
- Masks are strongly encouraged - let's embrace being safe tomorrow.
Safety reminders
- School hours will continue to be from 8:50 – 4:05. Students will not be allowed in the building prior to 8:30 unless it is a pre-set help session with a teacher.
- We will continue to have one-way hallways and rotundas. Signs around the building indicate these directions and teachers will introduce and reinforce the expectations with students over the first days of school.
- Dropping off of items during the school day will be limited to devices, medication, glasses, and instruments. Please be kind to our front office as we continue to limit contact.
- Schedule changes will only be considered if they meet the following criteria:
o Changes based on a student’s IEP or 504 plan.
o Changes in or out of a year-long music class.
o Changes based on incorrect level placement
for Language Arts, Math or World Language.
o If you have questions about your student’s schedule, please contact the grade-level counselor.
- We will be implementing a new process called Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) that addresses school expectations for staff and students. Please see the introductory letter from the PBIS Team (attached).
Remember to follow us on Twitter @TaylorRoadWay and @Proud_Tigers and on Facebook for updates. We will also continue our traditional Messenger newsletter, along with weekly principal emails. You can always find more information on our website.
I am so excited to share with your family #TheTRWayForward!
I love my job!
Core values of TRMS: Engagement, Rigor, and Relationships
- Get your schedule
- Pick up a previously purchased agenda
- 6th grade: Turn in Residency Verification Document
- ...and more
We will be the most busy at 9:00 AM! If you can come later during the window of time, you will have smaller crowds.
Important Device Information for Students -- BEFORE the First Day of School
Prior to the first day of school, please complete the following tasks at home:
- If you have a Windows laptop, restart the device and follow the on-screen prompts to install ALL necessary updates. Restart may be required more than once.
- If you have an iPad, Chromebook, or Windows device, make sure your device is charged and ready to go the first day of school.
- Bring your device and charger to school on the first day of school.
Note: If students do not complete the Windows updates at home, the updates will pop up the first time the device is powered on. This could interrupt valuable instructional time, so it is important to ask them to update the device before they come to school on day one.
iReady Diagnostic Testing Information
Dear Taylor Road Parents,
The iReady Fall Diagnostic will begin the week of August 16th. The iReady Math assessment will be administered on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 17th and 18th, and the iReady Reading assessment will be administered on Tuesday and August 24th and 25th. Make-up testing will be held each Friday during those testing weeks.
Students will complete the diagnostic with their homeroom teacher during first two periods of the day. A modified schedule will be followed on these days to minimize loss of instructional time. Please encourage your students to do their very best on the iReady assessment. Parents, the Taylor Road teachers and administration truly appreciate all your help in ensuring that your student has a smooth and successful experience during the administration of the iReady assessment.
Schedule for Tuesday, August 17th & August 24th
Join the PTA Now!
Hello Parents and Staff,
PTA Membership is now open! Go to the Store and Forms tab in Membership Toolkit, and then to the Membership Store!
Why join PTA? We'll tell you . . .
🎉 PTA Membership and dues support your child/students by funding essential educational and curriculum needs, advocating on behalf of children and educators at the local, state, and national levels, and building an inclusive school community for all families. We invite you to join the TRMS PTA for your child because increasing our membership—even by one—makes it possible to provide important educational resources, speak up on important issues, and create a stronger school community . . . and a rather FUN school community too! Take a look at a few of the PTA highlights from just last year! 🎉
Parents, we ask that you join at least at the Silver Level if you are able to because that amount is how much our activities, events, and sponsorship costs per student per year.
update your profile today! Go to How To Create My Account
💡 Also, we know that the organizations that are able to flex and pivot are those that remain valuable to their members. Especially now, we'd love YOUR ideas for how to best enrich this school year for all of our stakeholders. If an older or younger child's PTA or a neighbor's or colleague's school PTA is doing something really neat and new, please share this with us. We always want YOU to have a role in shaping your PTA! Please email our President, Ed Keichour, with any ideas or questions (trsmptapresident@gmail.com). 💡
Please log into Membership Toolkit, go to the Membership Store, and join us as Members and partners for the 2021-2022 School Year!
Thank you for your support,
