A Message from D303

Dear District 303 In-Person Middle and High School Families,

Beginning April 5, 2021, we are excited to be offering middle school and high school in-person students in-person instruction five days a week. While we are working to maintain as much continuity as possible with schedules, there are some changes to some of our procedures and routines due to the increase in the number of students attending school each day.

Thompson and Wredling Middle Schools

  • Bell schedules will remain the same.

  • Since students will be attending every day, there will no longer be asynchronous instruction.

  • As bus routes are balanced to accommodate additional students, there may be some route changes for your child. Bus schedules will be available in eLink by 9:00 a.m. on April 2. You may find bus route information in the Home Access Center under Home>>School Links Tab>>Bus Route Information.

  • Students will order lunch by 9:30 a.m. every day and eat at school. At the same time, students may order breakfast they can pick up after school for the next morning.

St. Charles East and St. Charles North High Schools

  • Bell schedules will remain the same.

  • As bus routes are balanced to accommodate additional students, there may be some route changes for your child. Bus schedules will be available in eLink by 9:00 a.m. on April 2. You may find bus route information in the Home Access Center under Home>>School Links Tab>>Bus Route Information.

  • Students will continue to pick up a grab-and-go meal at the end of the day that includes lunch for that day and breakfast for the next day.

Keeping our schools open to increased in-person learning is a partnership between the district, our families, and the community. As a district, we will continue to implement safety precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at school. We also request that you and your family take measures to stay safe during spring break. By following the mitigation strategies outlined by the Centers for Disease Control, the Illinois Department of Public Health, and the Kane County Health Department, we can provide a safe return to school for our students and staff. Thanks for your continued support of the district. We look forward to taking this next step in providing increased in-person opportunities for our students.

Attention all Senior Families!

National Honor Society

Attention Current Sophomores and Juniors!

  • Do you have a weighted or unweighted GPA of 4.5 or above?
  • Do you participate in clubs/sports/activities at SCN and our community?
  • Do you do service and/or hold leadership positions?

If you answered YES to any of these, you might want to consider applying for the National Honor Society. Use the Google Classroom Code hmv4ztw to get more information and this year’s application! All applications are due by May 7, 2021!

Seal of Biliteracy

Do you communicate in another language other than English? Are you enrolled in a world language course at SCN? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you might want to consider taking the Seal of Biliteracy exam.

Students who meet the state-approved proficiency level in speaking, listening, reading and writing, may receive the Seal of Biliteracy or Commendation distinction on their diploma and transcript. In addition, many colleges and universities accept the State Seal of Biliteracy as equivalent to two years of foreign language coursework taken in high school and may provide college credit.

Please visit the North High School website to find out more information about the test, the associated fee, and registration for the exam. The test will be administered on Saturday, April 10. The deadline to sign up for signing up is Wednesday, April 7.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day - March 29

In 2017, U.S. Sens. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., and Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., introduced legislation to honor Vietnam Veterans with a day on the anniversary of military units' withdrawal from South Vietnam. President Donald Trump signed the Vietnam War Veterans Day Act on March 28, 2017, calling for U.S. flags to be flown on March 29 for those who served. There are 5 objectives

with Vietnam Commemoration and the other four are:

  • Highlight the service of our Armed Forces and support organizations during the war

  • Pay tribute to wartime contributions at home by American citizens

  • Highlight technology, science, and medical advances made during the war

  • Recognize contributions by our Allies

We encourage you to read more about ways you can honor our Vietnam War Veterans by clicking the link below: National Vietnam War Veterans Day 2021

LRC Book Recommendation for National Vietnam Veterans Day

Boots On The Ground by Elizabeth Partridge “A personal, moving foray into the Vietnam War and its impact on the country and individuals whose lives it forever changed. Partridge takes readers on a... journey through the Vietnam War years via the personal stories of eight individuals: six American soldiers from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds, a biracial nurse, and a Vietnamese refugee. Each segment moves readers forward in time and is interspersed with brief snapshots of what was happening at home, from glimpses of the American presidents’ handling of the escalating crisis to the growing anti-war movement at home. Emphasizing the lasting emotional legacy of the war for those who served, even as the rest of the country seemed content to put it behind them. A superb selection of photographs puts an indelible face on the individuals whose lives the war affected.”

We also encourage you to watch the video interviews of several of our local Vietnam Veteran’s detailing their firsthand experiences serving in the Vietnam War. These amazing interviews detail the many extreme and frightening conditions these Veterans endured and the courage they exhibited. Our students and staff recently viewed this video to honor those brave men and women who served in this war. Vietnam Veterans Interviews SCN - 2021
