Busy 2 Weeks

We have several activities and visitors scheduled for the next two weeks. Monday night is Chik Fil A spirit night. On Tuesday, we have Dr. Watts visiting (no jeans) and our second session of HOST Advance III during planning. HOST will be meeting Tuesday thru Thursday of this week. Thursday, students in K-2 will participate in the Transportation Puppet Show (Mr. Knight emailed schedule). Leadership Gwinnett will visit Friday (no jean day), we have hat day for $1, and 1st Grade Career Day. Progress reports go home this Friday with academic contracts. This Saturday we host Vision 2016, so all electronics need to be stored and classrooms ready for visitors.


The following week November 17th, we have parent luncheons Monday & Tuesday with the Benefield Singers performing. Parents will have the opportunity to participate in parent workshops, complete surveys, and sign up for Remind messaging. Parents should say their goodbyes in the cafe, so you can begin your instruction immediately after your lunch period.


Angie Woo, principal for a day, will be visiting on Monday, November 17th, as well. Second grade has an in house field trip on Tuesday. You have the gift of time on Tuesday, so we are not having collaboration. We begin our Thursday morning with a Turkey Trot in which each staff member will find one turkey for a prize. The pink team is hosting a dessert bar for the teachers, so please stop by the conference room for a delicious dessert. We are hosting the GCPS eClass visit Thursday with approximately 50 guests (no jeans).


On Friday, November 21st, the leadership team will be cooking and serving Winter Waffles (no grits or oatmeal in cafe). We will have a drawing for a $25 Dave & Busters gift card. Stop by for a waffle and drop your name in the bucket for a chance to win the gift card.

January 5 Professional Learning

United Way Silent Auction

Please visit the media center to place your bid on some wonderful items. We have homemade baked goods, wreaths, gift certificates, and baskets donated by our community, parents, and staff. Thank you to Mr. Knight and his committee for organizing a very successful campaign!

Math Bee

This is our last week for Math Bee! We will go into the Semi Finals and Finals on Monday, November 17th! If you have any questions, please see Ms. Todd.

Spelling Bee

Ms. Stocks will be communicating with you about the process, but we will have our class spelling bees in December with your winners due 12/18. This will allow the students the opportunity to practice over winter break. Our school wide spelling bee will be on Thursday, January 8th in the Media Center (9:00 AM).

Bags of Thanks

Please take a few moments and write why you are thankful for your team mate, support teacher, custodian, front office, etc. Bag of Thanks are hanging in the front office hallway and we have a basket of blank notes by the water fountain. We would like to share our bags in December!

Retirement Celebrations

Please remember that we will have our Retirement Celebrations for Ms. Curtis and Mrs. Schlenker on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 in the media center.

Math Forum: Sherry Parrish

GCPS is excited to host our first K-12 Forum of the year with a focus on Building Powerful Numeracy. Sherry Parrish will join us to facilitate and model Number Talk strategies that engage students in developing and applying sound number sense.

eClass C&I Professional Learning

Academic Contracts

Please print a reading and math roster for your classes. Then, highlight all the students with a D or U in these classes. Attach your academic contracts to each list for review and signature. Please make sure your leadership team member has all your contracts by Wednesday.


Make sure academic contracts go home with progress reports on Friday. Thanks!

RBES

Just a quick reminder that the Leadership Team will be reviewing and signing off on your initial RBES goals this week. If you need to update or make any changes, please let your leadership team member know. Thanks!

Open Enrollment: Oct. 27th - Nov. 14th

Enrollment begins Monday, October 27th. Two steps are required: enrollment in the employee portal and at the state health benefit plan.


Enrollment closes at 5:00 PM on November 14th. Don't wait, as internet traffic and connectivity issues can impact your ability to enroll and receive benefits.


The next session will be on Monday, November 3rd at Meadowcreek High School - 4455 Steve Reynolds Boulevard, Norcross GA 30093-3323.


The presentation will be in the theater and will repeat approximately every 45 minutes. Parking is available behind the school on Mustang Way off of Steve Reynolds Boulevard. The parking lot is on the right.


Please advise employees they should log into the State Health Benefit Plan website, www.myshbpga.adp.com, and update their password prior to attending a session. New health insurance enrollees will need to register via the SHBP website.

WOW Days

Mrs. Toland has begun scheduling your substitutes for the upcoming WOW (working on the work) day. Each team will have one full day of collaboration and professional learning. The day begins at 7:30 AM in the HOST learning room. The day prior, your ILT member will ask you to bring your planning items such as Linda Hoyt resources, Lucy Calkins' writing kit, analyzing the standards, etc. to a central location to be placed on a cart. The cart will be delivered to the HOST room for your session time. The team will need to identify a lunch option and make plans prior to the day.


Support teachers in the area of EIP, ELL, and IRR will need to select the grade level in which they have the most segments of service. Each teacher will only be allowed one planning day. Therefore, it is important to let the grade level ILT member know who you will be planning with, so we can plan for substitute coverage. Please finalize your plans this week.

If your team would like to use the WOW day as their late collaboration day, please let the leadership team know your preference (flex the Tuesday of the WOW day week).

Parent Luncheons

If your class is not eating in the cafe, you will bring a class roster with you to the grab and go station. Please highlight all the students who will be receiving a lunch. The students will be able to select their lunch, just like breakfast.

GTES Teacher Surveys

Students in grades 3-5 will complete teacher surveys in the computer labs November 19 - 21, 2014. Mr. Knight and Mrs. Schiefelbein will publish a schedule. Please remember that you will be administering a survey for another teacher and may administer two surveys to include support teachers.

Student Loan Forgiveness

If you are applying to have your student loan forgiven, Human Resources will process these forms, now. This is a change in procedure from the past. Please give all forms to Mrs. Schlenker who will send the forms to the proper person in HR.
