Note from the Principal
What a wonderful week we have had welcoming our youngest learners back to school. The joy and excitement has been palpable, and it is difficult to tell who has been more thrilled... the children or their teachers! We have worked tirelessly as a community to prepare to open our doors, and the collective effort is both inspiring and humbling, and to be able to see the fruit from this effort is just the best! Your children are amazing, they are resilient, flexible, brilliant and joyful as they have returned to school practicing some new and different procedures. One of our teachers was commenting to a parent about how impressed she was with how well his son was adapting to returning to school, and the parent shared, "When teachers are brilliant, the children follow that path." It was a heart warming comment that made all of us feel proud and grateful for the support we receive from each of you.
I do know that the world feels a little more right as we watch our children return to school!
With Gratitude,
Lindy

CALENDAR CHANGES
SPRING CONFERENCE DAYS ARE NOW INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS
The spring conference days for Primary Schools (March 18 and 19) and for Middle Schools (March 19) will be canceled and converted to school days of instruction with teachers and students. This decision was made due to the timing of the hybrid model transition as well as the recent disruption to instructional time caused by power outages. The cancelation of conference days includes students in Comprehensive Distance Learning, the Hybrid Model, and the WLWV K12 Online Program.
What this means is that Primary Students will have a regular school day on March 18 and March 19 and Middle School Students will have a regular school day on March 19. While conferences are an important part of our work with students, current challenges encourage us to focus on instructional time with students.
ADJUSTMENT TO SCHOOL CALENDAR IN JUNE
The three closure dates we had due to inclement weather and power outages (February 23, 24, 25) will be made up in June. The final day of school will be announced once we have more certainty in regards to the number of expected “snow days/no school days” this school year.

Can Staff and Families Travel During Spring Break? Read other Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Hybrid Learning
The West Linn-Wilsonville School District recommends that both staff and families follow current Oregon Health Authority travel recommendations. As of February 24, OHA recommends people stay home or in their region and avoid non-essential travel to other states or countries. People arriving in Oregon from other states or countries for non-essential travel, including returning Oregon residents, should (but are not required to) practice self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival and limit interactions to people in their household. These recommendations do not apply to individuals who cross state or country borders for essential travel. Current OHA Travel Guidance can be found on the Oregon Health Authority website.
Daily Screening Process for In-Person Learning
As we continue to return to in-person learning, all students will need to participate in a daily 3-Step screening process to help protect the health of everyone in our school community. The first step in this process begins at home. Be sure to view the video below to learn about this important daily process.
Face Coverings
The Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance published by the Oregon Department of Education and The Oregon Health Authority states face coverings are required for all students in grades kindergarten and up. Face coverings will be worn all day both inside and outside. Here is additional information about selecting and wearing a face covering safely. Certain accommodations can be made for students with documented medical needs or a disability. Please reach out to your child’s case manager, the school counselor or the Student Services Department (503-673-7098) if you need to discuss an accommodation based on a documented medical need or disability.
Bus Information
To see what bus your child is assigned to, log into your ParentVue account. On the left hand side click on Bus Information. If your child is assigned to a bus, it will list your bus number, time of pick up and time of drop off. If you need to request a change, click the button and request that change. That will send your request to the bus company.
With the need for contact tracing being so high, we have to encourage a pretty rigid adherence to bus assignments and/or getting adjustments made.
If you need a 1 day change, please call the school office at (503) 673-7750 and we will communicate that change to your child's teacher.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
As with all things this year, arrival and dismissal, will look different from previous school years. In keeping with Oregon Health Authority guidelines we have reorganized our arrival and dismissal procedures. We have made the below videos to help explain the new procedures. We ask that you review and share this information with your child and family members that will be transporting or walking with your child to and from school.
A key change to our arrival and dismissal procedures is all students will enter their classroom from the outside doors of their classrooms, versus walking through the hallways and porches. In following OHA guidelines we are asking anyone accompanying students to school in a car, remain in their car when they drop off their child. Or if walking with a child, we are asking you say goodbye to your child on the softball side of the school property. A cross walk attendant will be there to safely guide your child across the street where further staff will guide your child to the color coded paths that lead to the outside classroom doors.
Following these procedures minimizes the number of people on school property, allows for us to be following OHA guidelines of maintaining 6 feet of distance, as well as allowing for students to clearly see the color coded paths we have designed. We will have several staff members available to help guide your student safely to the back door of their teacher's class room.
We appreciate everyone's flexibility and patience as these new procedures are learned. The safety of your student, in conjunction with meeting the Oregon Health Authority guidelines, are our highest priority.
10 Things You Can Do To Prepare For Returning Back To School
Please have conversations with your child about returning to school and how it will be both exciting and different from past school experiences. While we will be providing families with more tips and details for this, some simple ways to get started now can be:
- Have your child practice wearing a face mask for increasing lengths of time and while playing outside.
- Ensure your child has several face masks that they find comfortable and that fit well
- Practice washing hands thoroughly and independently
- Help young students build independence with things such as zipping coats and pants, tying shoes, opening lunch bags and containers.
- Point out social distance markings in public places and how to follow them.
These simple practices done well will help ensure the safety of our school community when we return. Use this as a tool or reference to begin your work at home. You can start setting your child up for success with these helpful ideas today.
Meal Service for Students in Hybrid Learning
- Hot lunch will be available for all students participating in hybrid learning during days they are learning at school. No ordering is required.
- Hot lunch will not be served at school on Fridays due to the shortened school day.
- Only lunch will be served during in-person learning days. There will be no breakfast.
- Even for students in hybrid learning, families can pick up a week’s worth of meals at Wilsonville High School on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11:00-12:00. Meal sets include breakfast and lunch.
- Meals are free for all students.
