Settled in the 1840’s Matakana has a proud history and strong sense of community.

Our Gastronomic Tour Itinerary
OCTOBER FRIDAY 27:
7.00 - Depart Tauranga
8.30 - Ngatea. Brief comfort/ take-away coffee stop.
11.30 – 12.39 Ransom Wines – We'll be tasting 5 wines, at this venue which is renowned for its elegant wines: Albarino, Carmenere, Bordeaux blend (Ransom/Mahurangi), Malbec, Syrah.
13.30 Runner Duck Estate – Lunch & wine tasting. Main & Dessert (Tasting Platter of Bayleys Cheesecake, Fresh Fruit Tart & Dark Chocolate Pave). Tasting of Pinot Gris, Rose, Bordeaux-style Blend, Syrah, Sangiovese.
15.00 Herons Flight - Wine Tasting with owner/wine-maker
16.30 Matakana – Back to motel
Freetime:- Evening meal and refreshments will be at your own discretion
SATURDAY 28 OCTOBER:
9.45 Leave motel
10.15 Omaha Bay Vineyard – Wine tasting with wine-maker (5 wines)
11.30 Morris & James – Hand-made pottery.” Established in 1977 by Ant Morris, today it is run by over a dozen artisans & craft-people, who continue Ant’s legacy, while exploring new creative directions & uses for clay.” Tour of venue at 11.30.
13.00 Brick Bay Estate – Lunch & wine tasting. (Sculpture Trail optional "... an ever-changing exhibition of over 60 sculptures along a 2km trail. Elegant board-walks lead through native trees & abundant bird-life.").
16.00 Matakana accommodation

SUNDAY OCTOBER 29:
9.30 – Leave motel
10.15 - Hyperion Wines - wine tasting
11.30 Ascension Wine Estate –Tasting. Lunch (Main & Dessert)).
13.30 Matavino - We will taste 5 wines, including Dolcetto & Nebbiolo at this small, family-owned vineyard.
14.15 Depart for Tauranga
18.00 ETA Tauranga
COST (Includes transport ex-Tauranga, accommodation, wine tastings & winery lunches: SINGLE - $918.00pp. ( $815.00pp. twin share)
Accommodation is at the Matakana Motel, which is within very easy walking distance to eateries ranging from superb to take-away, if you are wanting to eat out for breakfast or dinner. When we were checking the tour out, we had excellent meals at The Matakana & Matakana Market Kitchen.
If not, units have a microwave & fridge. The air-conditioned spacious studio units are comfortable & each unit has a pleasant outdoor area. Larger units may be available, if required.
